Paul Kaminski, DC Comics’ group editor, has shared exciting details about the upcoming series Superman Unlimited. He revealed that Jon Kent, Superman’s son, will undergo rigorous training to overcome his vulnerability to Kryptonite.

Kaminski envisions Jon’s training resembling that of Gohan from Dragon Ball Z, where Gohan trains alone in the mountains to become stronger.

He stated,I really hope to build out Jon in there (Superman Unlimited). And… sometimes I have these like, they are less of story markers for people but more importantly like images to follow through on and one of the images I have on my head is Jon training on a mountain like Gohan to overcome Kryptonite and doing so somehow. So that’s the goal here is to like show this as an exploration of this family.

Kaminski and artist Dan Mora are known fans of Dragon Ball, and their admiration for the series influences their work on Superman Unlimited.

Superman Unlimited is a new ongoing comic book series by Dan Slott and Rafael Albuquerque, launching in May 2025. This marks Slott’s first ongoing series for DC Comics.

“He’s the first and the greatest superhero of all-time, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him.”

The series will be a key part of DC’s “Summer of Superman” initiative, along with Action Comics and other Superman titles. It kicked off with a 10-page prelude in the DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 on May 3 as part of Free Comic Book Day. Issue #1 will be available on May 21 at comic shops and online.

Slott promises the series will take Superman, Lois, and other characters to new and exciting places. He wants both new readers and longtime fans to feel welcome, saying:

If you’ve never read a Superman book… or if you’ve been a Superman fan your entire life—you couldn’t ask for a better place to take the leap.”
