Amazon MGM Studios has fundamentally altered the production roadmap for the final chapter of ‘Good Omens’, scrapping plans for a full third season in favor of a single, feature-length episode. The decision arrives following a production pause initiated in September at the show’s shooting location in Bathgate, Scotland. Sources close to the production confirm that the revised finale will run for approximately 90 minutes, serving as the conclusion to the adaptation of the 1990 novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

The structural pivot coincides with significant changes in the show’s creative hierarchy. Neil Gaiman, who served as the showrunner for the first two seasons, has stepped back from day-to-day production duties following allegations of sexual misconduct, which he has denied. While Gaiman contributed to the writing of the finale, he will not be present on set during principal photography. A new production entity has been established to oversee the final installment, replacing Gaiman’s The Blank Corporation, which handled the previous seasons.

Negotiations are currently underway to secure the returns of lead actors Michael Sheen and David Tennant, whose contracts were originally structured for a multi-episode season. The reduced runtime presents logistical and financial adjustments for the studio, which must now condense the planned narrative arc into a standalone television event. Filming is expected to resume in Scotland in early 2025, utilizing the soundstages and local crews that have been on hold since the initial suspension of pre-production activities.

Industry analysts suggest this move allows Amazon to honor the narrative conclusion for the show’s dedicated fanbase while navigating the complexities surrounding its creator. “The 90-minute format provides a fiscal and creative exit strategy that mitigates long-term production risks,” noted a streaming media strategist based in London. The finale will air exclusively on Prime Video, though a specific release window remains unconfirmed pending the finalization of talent agreements.
