Few characters in ‘The Boys’ have garnered the kind of loyal fanbase that Terror has, despite his limited screen appearances. As the Prime Video adaptation races towards its series finale, the uncertainty surrounding Billy Butcher’s faithful English bulldog has become one of the most searched topics related to the show.

The latest episode placed the dog in significant danger, reigniting the worst fears of comic readers about what lies ahead. Here’s a recap of what happened to Butcher’s cherished companion this week, what the source material has hinted at, and what it could mean as we approach the final three episodes.

In the fifth season’s fifth episode, titled “One-Shots,” fans had plenty to worry about. Although Terror does not meet his end in this episode, he is indeed put in serious peril. The episode employs a non-linear, multi-character POV structure, giving Butcher’s dog a full perspective of his own.

The chocolate scare unfolds when MM accidentally drops some sweets, prompting Terror to dash for them before Butcher intervenes. A frantic Butcher then calls for hydrogen peroxide while Hughie rushes to grab the first aid kit, and together they manage to save the dog. This moment of teamwork between Butcher and Hughie is one of the rare instances this season.

The episode also features a hilariously meme-worthy sequence. Viewers first see Homelander in a field before realizing they are inside Terror’s dream about humping his Homelander plushie. Annie and Kimiko enter to feed the dog and decide to wash the toy, triggering Terror’s search around the safe house.

Following the chocolate incident, the emotional moments resonate. Butcher expresses his gratitude to Hughie for saving Terror and suggests that Hughie can take some V1 to help Annie and Kimiko if their plan succeeds. The dog has clearly become Butcher’s last link to anything resembling humanity.

In Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic series, Terror’s fate is notoriously grim. In the comics, Terror does not survive, falling victim to the escalating conflict between Butcher and the Seven.

The details of that demise have been recounted in various forums. After a tentative truce between Butcher and Homelander, Butcher leaks damaging information about Jack From Jupiter, the comic’s Martian Manhunter counterpart, leading to Black Noir killing Terror in retaliation. Butcher later discovers his beloved companion lying in a pool of blood, which drives him into a darker, more ruthless path.

There’s also a poignant real-world coincidence tied to this storyline. The bulldog portraying Terror, named Bentley Alexander, passed away on November 2, 2025, the same date as the 2011 release of Issue 60, which illustrated the aftermath of Terror’s death in the comics. Both comic readers and TV viewers have been grappling with that overlap ever since.

However, the show has been known to diverge from the comics. As Kripke mentioned in an interview with Variety, characters like Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Joe Kessler are only loosely connected to the comics. Therefore, a comic-accurate death is far from assured.

Kripke has been open about why Terror had limited appearances in the earlier seasons. He noted that the decision to keep Terror sidelined stemmed from the challenges of filming with dogs within such a complex production.

Nonetheless, he did not completely write off the character. Kripke hinted that Butcher’s furry friend would have a significant role in one episode of the second season, which indeed occurred. The bulldog has made sporadic appearances since, but this final season has granted Terror the most screen time he has ever received.

This increased focus appears intentional. According to the wiki citing Kripke, Terror’s earlier absences were primarily due to the difficulties of working with dogs amidst the show’s many demands. With the finish line in sight, the writers clearly decided that the production challenges were worth it.

The final season is short on episodes and high on stakes. ‘The Boys’ Season 5 is set to premiere on Prime Video on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, featuring a total of eight episodes, with the finale “Blood and Bone” scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026. This leaves three hours of television in which Terror’s fate will be determined.

Terror has been portrayed this season as Butcher’s emotional anchor. Killing the dog in the finale could push Butcher completely over the edge, although for now, while Terror is dead in the comics, he remains alive in the show. The narrative groundwork is unmistakably laid if the writers choose to take that drastic step.

There’s also a compelling argument for sparing him. With Butcher confronting his own mortality, MM coming to terms with his fate, and Sister Sage seemingly anticipating global catastrophe, killing Terror on top of everything else could feel excessively cruel. Sage has reportedly expressed her hope that the Godolkin virus is unleashed to trigger a new world war, which already adds a heavy layer of bleakness.

Regardless of what Kripke and his team decide, Terror’s fate is bound to resonate more than almost any human death this season. The bulldog has quietly become the heart of a show that often pretends not to have one, and the next three Wednesdays promise to be emotionally challenging for anyone who has grown attached.
