Hit Hulu TV Show ‘The Bear’ With 93% Score Gets Surprise Prequel Episode ‘Gary’
Hulu has surprised fans of ‘The Bear’ with a new episode that dropped unexpectedly. The show, which has garnered a strong following since its debut, continues to expand its narrative even as a final season is in the works.
‘The Bear’ is a comedy-drama series created by Christopher Storer. It centers around a group of individuals working in a Chicago restaurant and stars Jeremy Allen White as Carmy Berzatto, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richie Jerimovich, Ayo Edebiri as Syd Adamu, and Jon Bernthal as Mikey Berzatto. The series has become one of Hulu’s most discussed shows in recent years.
The fourth season was released in June 2025, and a fifth and final season is currently in development. Despite this, Hulu has now launched a surprise episode outside the usual season schedule.
The episode is titled “Gary.” It serves as a flashback story that highlights Richie and Mikey during a work trip they take together to Gary, Indiana.
This episode delves deeper into their past relationship, illustrating how their friendship functioned before the main timeline of the series. It provides additional context regarding Mikey’s mental state and enriches Richie’s character, revealing how he evolved into the person fans encounter in season one.
Moss-Bachrach and Bernthal collaborated on writing the episode, while Christopher Storer directed it.
Moss-Bachrach announced the surprise episode on Instagram, expressing, “COUSINS! PRIMOS! CUGINI!!! Get ready for GARY!!!! We are so excited to finally share this little adventure with Richie and Mikey. Written by me and @jonnybernthal. Directed by the one Christopher Storer. Making this was a dream come true. Thanks to the beautiful people of Gary, Indiana and as always Chicago, Illinois. Search Gary in HULU to watch.”
All four seasons of ‘The Bear’ are currently available for streaming on Hulu. A release date for the final season has yet to be announced.
In addition to the main cast, the series features Lionel Boyce as Marcus, Liza Colón-Zayas as Tina, Abby Elliott as Natalie, Matty Matheson as Neil, and Edwin Lee Gibson as Ebraheim.
