As production progresses, excitement is mounting for Netflix’s ambitious reimagining of a beloved franchise. The streaming giant has made a substantial investment in adapting one of pop culture’s most iconic properties, indicating strong confidence in a vision that diverges from decades of animated tradition.

New images from active production sets often spark significant fan interest, providing audiences with their first look at how creators are interpreting characters that have been part of cultural memory for generations.

The series centers on four teenagers who embark on a mission to solve a mystery involving a supernatural murder that may have been witnessed by a Great Dane puppy. This upcoming series offers a modern take on the beloved group of teens and their special dog, delving into the terrifying first case that unites Mystery Inc. for good. This origin story approach sets the project apart from earlier live-action adaptations that featured established character versions. Principal photography commenced on April 24 and is scheduled to conclude on September 10 at Cinespace Film Studios in Atlanta.

Mckenna Grace has been cast as Daphne Blake, with Tanner Hagen portraying Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones.

Grace previously voiced a young version of Daphne in the animated film ‘Scoob!’ (2020) and its unreleased prequel ‘Scoob!: Holiday Haunt.’ Her familiarity with the character and the franchise ensures continuity as the project ventures into new live-action territory. Paul Walter Hauser has also been confirmed to play Scooby’s owner as part of the ensemble cast.

The creative team behind the project boasts significant industry talent. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are serving as showrunners, head writers, and executive producers, with the series produced by Warner Bros. Television alongside Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio.

This eight-part series revisits the very first case that started it all, set during the final summer at camp when old friends Shaggy and Daphne become embroiled in a haunting mystery involving a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder.

The series is set to be released on Netflix and will consist of eight episodes. While Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date, production is well underway on the Atlanta sound stage.

What are your thoughts on this first look at Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the classic mystery-solving team?
