David Attenborough Returns for New Sequel ‘Blue Planet III’ from BBC
The BBC is set to revive one of its most beloved nature series with ‘Blue Planet III’. This exciting announcement comes from BBC Specialist Factual and the BBC Studios Natural History Unit.
Once again, the series will feature the iconic narration of David Attenborough, who previously lent his voice to the franchise, including the original ‘Blue Planet’ and ‘Blue Planet II’.
The first ‘Blue Planet’ series debuted 25 years ago, revolutionizing the way television showcased the world’s oceans. It provided viewers with an unprecedented glimpse into the depths of the sea, revealing the vast and intricate marine environment.
In 2017, ‘Blue Planet II’ made an even greater impact, raising global awareness about ocean pollution, particularly concerning single-use plastics. The series sparked meaningful discussions and prompted changes in how people view marine conservation.
Jack Bootle, BBC Head of Specialist Factual Commissioning, expressed his excitement about Attenborough’s return, stating, “I’m thrilled that David is taking the helm of ‘Blue Planet’ once again. His extraordinary talent for storytelling has shaped the way generations of audiences understand and connect with the natural world.”

Jonny Keeling from BBC Studios Natural History Unit also shared his enthusiasm, saying, “We are so excited to have David narrate this new blockbuster series. It’s full of never-before-seen animal behaviour, new locations, new science, and heartfelt storytelling.”
The upcoming series will delve into the oceans using cutting-edge filming techniques and new underwater camera technology, allowing crews to capture marine life in ways previously unimaginable.
‘Blue Planet III’ will explore five major ocean environments: tropical seas, open ocean, seasonal seas, polar waters, and the deep sea, showcasing various marine species and their behaviours.
The final episode will focus on the future of the oceans and the actions that can be taken to safeguard them. It will also highlight how marine life is adapting to a changing environment, featuring stories of resilience and recovery.
This project is a collaboration between BBC Studios Natural History Unit and The Open University, with international co-production support from various broadcasters. BBC Studios will manage global distribution.
‘Blue Planet III’ is anticipated to air later this year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
