Chris Hemsworth and Taron Egerton have been featured in the initial images from the upcoming crime thriller Kockroach, which has recently completed filming in Australia. These photos were unveiled as part of an official announcement, providing fans with an early look at the film’s dark and unique atmosphere.

According to the production details released alongside the images, Kockroach is set in New York and follows a mysterious stranger who infiltrates the city’s criminal underbelly. As the story unfolds, he ascends the ranks and transforms into a formidable crime boss in a realm governed by control and fear.

The film is adapted from the novel by William Lashner, which reinterprets Franz Kafka’s renowned story Metamorphosis. This version twists the narrative into a crime context, where transformation is pivotal to the plot. Additionally, the movie introduces a supernatural element, blending crime drama with body horror.

Early descriptions indicate that Hemsworth’s character undergoes a bizarre and violent metamorphosis, beginning as something insect-like and evolving into a feared gangster. The film is anticipated to explore both the shocking and surreal aspects of this transformation.

Directed by Matt Ross, the screenplay is crafted by Jonathan Ames, known for You Were Never Really Here, with additional revisions by Ross. The project boasts a strong ensemble cast beyond its two leads, including Rachel Sennott, Zazie Beetz, Alec Baldwin, and Brian Geraghty.

Produced by Andrew Lazar, recognized for American Sniper, and Christina Weiss Lurie, who contributed to Persuasion, the movie’s international rights are managed by Black Bear, while CAA Media Finance and Range Select are co-representing domestic distribution.

Chris Hemsworth also shared his thoughts on the shoot via social media, posting images from production and reflecting on his experience working on the film.

He expressed, “possibly the most fun I’ve had on a set” and described the script as “one hell of a wild script.”

The narrative intertwines crime power struggles with a surreal transformation arc, evolving a straightforward rise-to-power story into something much more peculiar and unsettling. The theme of a man transitioning from vulnerability to dominance is central to the film’s tone.

With filming now concluded in Australia, Kockroach is entering post-production. The first look images hint at a gritty, stylized universe where ambition, identity, and transformation intersect in unforeseen ways.
