Few non-English-language series have achieved the level of success that ‘Lupin’ has, transforming Omar Sy’s gentleman thief into a true global sensation since its debut in 2021. Inspired by Maurice Leblanc’s classic Arsène Lupin character, the Paris-based series has built its reputation on intricate heists, clever disguises, and a protagonist who always seems to be one step ahead of his pursuers.

Part 3 concluded with a cliffhanger that was unprecedented for the show. After stealing the Black Pearl, gaining public support, faking his own death, and saving his estranged mother, Assane Diop realized that the only way to ensure the safety of his loved ones was to sacrifice his own freedom, ultimately turning himself in to the police and ending the season incarcerated.

Netflix has now revealed when fans can expect to get answers. ‘Lupin’ Part 4 will premiere globally on October 23, marking the longest gap between seasons, nearly three years after Part 3’s release. This new season will consist of eight episodes, making it the most extensive chapter of the series to date.

According to Netflix, the upcoming season picks up four years after Assane’s imprisonment, as he attempts to start anew with his family after serving his time. However, his plans are quickly derailed by a mysterious announcement attributed to Lupin, claiming responsibility for a series of simultaneous museum heists, which forces Assane back into action to clear his name and confront the impersonator.

Omar Sy returns as Assane Diop, joined by familiar faces such as Ludivine Sagnier as Claire, Antoine Gouy as Benjamin, Soufiane Guerrab as Youssef, and Shirine Boutella as Sofia. New cast members Théo Christine and Laïka Blanc-Francard will also join the ensemble for this season.

Sy has expressed what continues to draw him to the role over the years. In comments shared with Netflix’s Tudum, the actor described Lupin as an extraordinary plaything, sharing that he finds genuine joy in revisiting the character each time a new installment is produced.

The series continues to be creatively directed by George Kay, alongside François Uzan, with contributions from Marie Roussin, Florent Meyer, and Tigran Rosine for the new season’s writing team. Sy and Louis Leterrier remain as showrunners, with production managed by Gaumont in collaboration with Carrousel Studios. Filming for Part 4 began in Paris in May and concluded by early fall of last year, leading into an extended post-production period.

With a psychological and higher-stakes tone reportedly shaping much of the new season, Part 4 is set to explore unresolved questions from Assane’s imprisonment, including the fate of his longtime rival Hubert Pellegrini and what transpired with those closest to him during his time behind bars. Given the longer wait compared to previous seasons, expectations for Part 4 to provide a satisfying continuation are particularly high among dedicated fans.

As a series that has spent years establishing one of Netflix’s most successful non-English-language records, ‘Lupin’ Part 4 arrives with significant anticipation, both in terms of resolving Assane’s current situation and demonstrating the show’s ability to maintain its momentum after its longest hiatus yet. Previous seasons featured fewer episodes, with the first two installments comprising five episodes each and Part 3 containing seven, making this eight-episode chapter the most ambitious structure the show has attempted thus far.
