X-Men Reboot Casting Call Seeks Three New Supporting Roles for Marvel Film
Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated ‘X-Men’ reboot has been one of the most closely monitored casting developments in Hollywood for nearly a year. Each new name, rumor, and denial has sent fans into a frenzy. Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, which returned the mutant franchise to Marvel, speculation about who will portray the next generation of X-Men has remained relentless.
This speculation reached a significant point at D23 in August when Marvel Studios officially introduced the core cast for the untitled project. Director Jake Schreier and star Sadie Sink, who previously appeared as Jean Grey in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ were joined onstage by Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver was later revealed to play the villain Nathaniel Milbury. Kevin Feige emphasized that this announcement was not the final roster, hinting at more casting news to come.
That promise seems to be coming to fruition. According to a report from Cosmic Marvel, credited to insider Daniel Richtman, the ‘X-Men’ production is now reportedly casting for three additional roles: an Asian woman in a supporting role, a Native American man in a supporting role, and a woman whose role will start small in the first film but expand significantly in the sequel.
While specific mutants corresponding to these roles have not been confirmed, the descriptions align with Marvel’s casting strategy, which has been to gradually build the ensemble rather than revealing every character at once. The mention of a role designed to grow between films suggests Marvel is already planning for a sequel before the first movie has even begun production.

This staggered casting approach aligns with how Schreier and Feige have managed the project thus far. The D23 reveal was meticulously planned, introducing familiar characters like Jean Grey and Cyclops before surprising audiences with Driver’s late reveal as the film’s main antagonist.
Filling supporting roles with characters defined by their backgrounds, rather than immediately identifying specific comic book mutants, also reflects Marvel’s strategy in other recent ensemble projects, where casting details are released gradually ahead of official character confirmations. This method allows fans to speculate about who these new additions might ultimately portray as more information becomes available.
The film currently lacks an official title but is set for a theatrical release on May 5, 2028, positioning it as one of the studio’s key projects following ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ With Schreier directing and a script penned by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, the project aims to establish a distinct identity for the X-Men, separate from the Fox-era films that defined the franchise for nearly two decades.
Whether these new supporting roles will belong to established comic characters or introduce entirely new additions to the mutant roster remains to be seen. Given the attention each previous casting update has garnered, it is likely that more concrete details will emerge soon.
