‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Becomes the Highest-Grossing Domestic Movie Ever
Box office records often seem unbreakable until they are finally surpassed, and few seemed as secure as the one held by ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ for over a decade. J.J. Abrams’ 2015 blockbuster comfortably maintained its position at the top of the domestic chart, fending off challenges from Marvel’s biggest crossovers and Disney’s ambitious sequels.
Tom Holland’s latest Spider-Man adventure has been systematically breaking box office records this summer. Since its release on July 31, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ achieved the record for the largest domestic opening weekend with $360 million, crossed $2 billion worldwide faster than nearly any film in history, and dominated the North American box office for six consecutive weekends.
Doesn’t get bigger than this.

This remarkable run has culminated in a historic achievement. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has officially overtaken ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ to become the highest-grossing movie of all time at the domestic box office, amassing $936.773 million after just 47 days in theaters, finally breaking a record that stood since 2015.

‘The Force Awakens’ held that title for over a decade with $936.6 million, a figure so resilient that it survived a close challenge from ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019, which fell just short at $858.3 million. With a significant lead now, ‘Brand New Day’ appears poised to hold this record for a considerable time.
The ascent of ‘Brand New Day’ to the top was marked by one of the fastest milestone achievements in box office history. The film became the quickest to reach $700 million in just 13 days, $800 million in 19 days, and $900 million in 36 days, making it only the second film ever to surpass the $900 million mark domestically after ‘The Force Awakens’ itself.

Globally, the film’s performance has been equally impressive, with its worldwide total reaching $2.45 billion, making it the third-highest-grossing movie of all time, trailing only ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and featuring Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jon Bernthal, the film has also received positive reviews, achieving a “Certified Fresh” 90 percent critics’ score and a “Verified Hot” 97 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
With the domestic title now secured, the only remaining question is whether ‘Brand New Day’ can become the first film to cross $1 billion at the North American box office, a milestone that may require a re-release given its current trajectory. Regardless, this latest Spider-Man installment has solidified its place as one of the defining box office stories of the year.
