In the past two years, few actresses have transformed their cultural visibility into a thriving business quite like Sydney Sweeney. With impressive box office hits, an expanding production slate, and a lingerie brand supported by major tech figures, she has evolved from a rising star into a fully operational brand.

Such rapid success often raises a common question in Hollywood: is the individual at the forefront truly in control, or is someone else subtly influencing their path? For Sweeney, this inquiry has taken on a particular focus recently, revolving around a specific relationship.

Sydney Sweeney has emerged as a significant brand in Hollywood, but speculation about who is truly orchestrating her empire has surfaced, as reported by Page Six. This speculation centers on her relationship with music mogul Scooter Braun, which reportedly began after they met at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding in Venice. This pairing has sparked questions about who is genuinely shaping her career trajectory.

According to the report, an industry insider claimed, “Sydney absolutely listens to Scooter and Scooter has absolutely been helping to broker her deals.” This statement has fueled speculation regarding the extent of Braun’s influence behind the scenes. Reports also indicate that Braun “inserted himself” into her transition to CAA, suggesting his impact may reach beyond a conventional romantic relationship.

Interestingly, WME’s Ari Emanuel reportedly advised Sweeney to end her relationship with Braun for the sake of her career, although Emanuel has denied making such a suggestion. Regardless of the truth, the existence of this alleged advice implies that some in the industry view Braun’s involvement as a potential complication in managing Sweeney’s public image.

However, not everyone subscribes to the narrative that Sweeney requires a puppet master. A source close to the actress firmly stated, “the decisions she makes are hers,” while pop culture analyst Rachel Richardson described the notion that someone else orchestrates her image as “wild,” emphasizing that “her love of provocation predates her relationship with Braun.”

This pushback aligns with what is publicly known about Sweeney’s proactive approach to her career. She co-founded her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, back in 2020, well before Braun entered her life. Insiders portray her as someone who actively participates in marketing discussions and strategic decisions regarding her projects.

Sweeney’s commercial impact speaks volumes, regardless of who receives credit. Her SYRN lingerie brand launched with support from Coatue Management, alongside funding linked to Jeff Bezos and Michael Dell. Additionally, her producing credits include ‘Anyone But You,’ ‘The Housemaid,’ and ‘Christy,’ with the latter two collectively grossing over $400 million worldwide.

Recent campaigns, such as a partnership with Novig that faced backlash from female athletes for its provocative imagery, have further fueled the ongoing debate about whose vision is truly guiding these decisions. Novig’s CEO, Jacob Fortinsky, stated that Sweeney was “driving a lot of the visuals and the messaging,” complicating any narrative that suggests she is merely following someone else’s agenda.

At the heart of this speculation lies a question rarely posed about male stars in similar situations: can a woman’s success be entirely her own, or must it always be attributed to a man’s influence? An insider close to Sweeney seemed to anticipate this double standard, asserting that she “built her career through her own instincts and work ethic.”

Whether Braun genuinely plays a significant role in her deal-making or simply happens to be dating someone already in control of her own narrative remains unclear, and likely intentionally so. What is evident is that Sweeney’s brand, for better or worse, shows no signs of slowing down amidst the speculation surrounding her.
