Legendary and Paramount’s live-action ‘Street Fighter’ adaptation has been gradually winning over a fanbase that was initially skeptical. With a history of video game movies often falling short, the impressive cast featuring Jason Momoa, 50 Cent, and WWE’s Cody Rhodes initially seemed more like stunt casting than a genuine homage.

However, that skepticism began to fade as footage started to emerge. Fans responded positively to earlier trailers, appreciating the film’s embrace of the source material’s inherent silliness instead of opting for a darker tone. Many have drawn favorable comparisons to the campy essence of the original 1995 ‘Mortal Kombat.’

The latest teaser focuses on what endeared the games to fans: the iconic moves. The clip, shared via Fandango, showcases live-action renditions of signature attacks such as the Dragonlash Kick, Shoryuken, Yoga Mummy, 100 Lightning Kicks, Buffalo Headbutt, and 100 Hand Slaps.

These moves correspond directly with the film’s character lineup. For instance, Noah Centineo’s Ken Masters and Andrew Koji’s Ryu are likely behind the Shoryuken, while Vidyut Jammwal’s Dhalsim is associated with the yoga-based holds. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s Balrog is expected to deliver the Buffalo Headbutt, and Hirooki Goto, the professional wrestler cast as E. Honda, is the prime candidate for the rapid-fire Hundred Hand Slap, a signature move of his character.

Set in 1993, the film follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken as they are recruited by Chun-Li, portrayed by Callina Liang, into the World Warrior Tournament, a competition secretly orchestrated by M. Bison and his Shadaloo organization. Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the script was co-written with T.J. Fixman, and filming took place across Australia in late 2025.

In addition to the main trio, the ensemble cast features a wish list of talent from combat sports and pop culture. David Dastmalchian plays M. Bison, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i takes on Akuma, Jason Momoa portrays Blanka, Orville Peck is Vega, and Olivier Richters, known for his imposing stature, was cast as Zangief.

Previous trailers have already drawn attention to the franchise’s arcade roots, with fans noting details like the destructible car from the games’ bonus stage making an appearance. Overall, reactions have leaned toward relief that the filmmakers have treated the property as a love letter rather than attempting to reinvent it into something more serious than it was ever meant to be.

This latest promotional effort continues that trend, focusing on a direct homage to the button-mashing specials that longtime players remember. For a franchise built on arcade cabinets and larger-than-life characters, successfully translating those iconic moves to a live-action format has always been the true test of this adaptation’s viability.

With ‘Street Fighter’ set to hit theaters on October 16, the studio appears confident that showcasing these moves is the best way to maintain excitement. Judging by the response to earlier footage, fans are eager to witness the Hadoken and Psycho Power in action.
