Tom Cruise has mastered the art of the red carpet, and his recent appearance at the premiere of ‘Digger’ was no different. After much anticipation surrounding this unique collaboration, the actor celebrated the film’s public debut for the very first time.

This significant event took place this week in London, where ‘Digger’ officially premiered as a Royal Film Performance in Leicester Square, organized by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures to support the Film and TV Charity. True to form, Cruise showcased his signature flair, striking a playful pose that mirrored his character from the poster behind him.

The striking image, set against a massive backdrop of his transformed character Digger Rockwell, highlighted the dramatic changes Cruise made for the role. While the poster depicts him with thinning grey hair and a noticeably altered silhouette, the actor appeared in his classic polished style, donning a black tuxedo for the premiere and playfully mimicking his character’s stance for the photographers.

‘Digger’ marks Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s first English-language film since his Oscar-winning ‘The Revenant.’ In this film, Cruise portrays a character described in the logline as “the most powerful man in the world.” Digger Rockwell embarks on a frantic mission to prove himself as humanity’s savior before the disaster he unleashed destroys everything, in what has been described as “a comedy of catastrophic proportions.”

This physical transformation, along with a thick Southern accent, represents one of the most unexpected shifts in Cruise’s career, especially considering his recent reputation for death-defying stunts in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise. The premiere photo, showcasing both versions of Cruise side by side, provided fans with a clear view of how far he pushed the role.

Cruise leads an impressive ensemble cast that includes Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Emma D’Arcy, all of whom joined him at the London premiere. Iñárritu directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman, reuniting with Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, who filmed the project on 35mm using VistaVision.

Filming took place over approximately six months in and around the UK’s Pinewood Studios, making the London premiere a fitting homecoming for a production deeply rooted in British soil. This connection to the UK also influenced the decision to debut the film there first, rather than following the traditional fall festival circuit.

Following its London debut, ‘Digger’ is set to roll out internationally starting September 30, before arriving in North American theaters and IMAX screens on October 2. This film also marks Cruise’s first project since signing a deal to develop and produce theatrical films with Warner Bros. Discovery, adding extra significance to audience reactions once the wider release begins.

Given the buzz surrounding Cruise’s transformation from just one premiere photo, ‘Digger’ is poised to be one of the most talked-about releases of the fall.
