First Clip From ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Season 2 Released Ahead of Netflix Premiere
Few anime adaptations of video games have achieved both critical acclaim and significant cultural impact like ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ did in 2022. The series not only captivated anime enthusiasts but also played a crucial role in reshaping public perception of one of the most notorious video game launches in recent history, leading to a notable increase in sales and players for ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ after its release.
This level of influence made the anticipation for a sequel feel particularly prolonged, with almost four years passing since the original season’s launch before any solid confirmation of what would follow. Fans have eagerly awaited a return to Night City, even without knowing the specifics of how that return would manifest.
The first clip from ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ season 2 has now emerged ahead of its October 20 premiere on Netflix, providing fans with a fresh glimpse of the anime’s highly awaited comeback. This footage is part of a larger marketing strategy leading up to the season’s release, maintaining the momentum created by earlier trailers.

Instead of continuing directly from the first season’s conclusion, ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2’ opts for a different narrative direction by introducing an entirely new cast of characters set in the same Night City environment. Netflix has characterized the sequel as a standalone, 10-episode story focusing on themes of redemption and revenge in a city that thrives on violence and spectacle.
The series centers around Weak, a faded cyberpunk legend now forced to navigate life without chrome as he seeks purpose in a world that has moved on, alongside a lethal nomad named D, who embarks on a quest for vengeance that leads him into perilous corporate secrets. This shift away from David and Lucy, the main characters from the original season, reflects a deliberate creative choice to explore new aspects of the Cyberpunk universe.
Once again produced by Japanese animation studio Trigger in collaboration with CD Projekt Red, Kai Ikarashi directs this new installment. Bartosz Sztybor returns as writer and showrunner, having previously described his vision for the sequel as drawing inspiration from 90s crime films like ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Léon: The Professional.’
The English dub features Clancy Brown voicing veteran edgerunner Weak Kingsley, with Valeria Rodriguez, Kimoy Lee, and Nazeeh Tarsha rounding out the cast. In the original Japanese version, Momoka Terasawa and Akari Kitō lead the voice cast, bringing this new chapter of Night City to life in both language versions.

The new footage was released alongside a wave of anime announcements from Netflix, including fresh insights into titles like ‘Bass X Machina’ and ‘Blue Eye Samurai’ season 2. This timing underscores the streamer’s ongoing commitment to anime content, even as its live-action programming continues to dominate overall viewership.
‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ season 2 also debuts during a particularly busy month for anime on the platform, with new episodes of ‘Blue Box’ and ‘Steel Ball Run’ also scheduled to premiere throughout October. This crowded release calendar highlights how integral anime has become to Netflix’s broader content strategy as fall approaches.
With a new content warning attached to the latest clip suggesting the same intense, graphic style that characterized the original season, it’s evident that Trigger is not holding back for this sequel. Given the first season’s enduring popularity among both anime fans and gamers, expectations for this new chapter are soaring as its premiere date approaches.
‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix on October 20.
