Tom Cruise Stuns Fans With Bold New Hair at ‘Digger’ London Premiere
Tom Cruise has spent decades perfecting one of Hollywood’s most iconic looks, so any change to his signature style is bound to create a stir. This week, he made headlines as he attended one of the year’s most eagerly awaited premieres.
The event marked a significant milestone for a project that has been in development for years, uniting Cruise with a renowned director known for pushing actors beyond their limits. With so much anticipation surrounding this collaboration, all eyes were on Cruise as he arrived.
At the world premiere of ‘Digger’ in London, Cruise turned heads with a striking bright-red hairstyle, a bold departure from his usual brown locks. The 64-year-old actor looked dapper in a tuxedo and bow tie, completing his ensemble with sunglasses and polished black dress shoes as he walked the red carpet at Leicester Square.

This eye-catching hair color follows a significant physical transformation that Cruise underwent for his role in the film. Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, ‘Digger’ sees Cruise embody the eccentric oil tycoon Digger Rockwell, complete with a bodysuit and extensive prosthetic makeup that renders him nearly unrecognizable on screen.
The transformation was no easy feat. On the ‘New Heights’ podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, Cruise shared that the first time his full makeup was applied, it took a staggering six hours. “The first time we did the makeup, it took six hours, OK?” Cruise told the Kelce brothers, noting that this lengthy process conflicted with his demanding filming schedule.

Refusing to accept that timeline, Cruise took control of the situation by timing each stage of the makeup application with a stopwatch alongside the makeup team. Through practice and careful timing, he managed to reduce the process from several hours to under an hour, allowing him to maximize his time on set.

The heat generated by the prosthetics posed another challenge during filming, with Cruise sweating heavily beneath the makeup during long takes. To combat this, the team devised a system with cooling equipment, where crew members would call out “Digger up” when it was time for Cruise to perform and “Digger down” during breaks, allowing him to stay close to the set.
Cruise has described his collaboration with Iñárritu on ‘Digger’ as a seven-year journey, drawn to the project for the director’s artistry and the opportunity to push his creative boundaries. This week’s London premiere feels like a true culmination for both collaborators after years of development before filming even began.
In the film, Digger triggers a catastrophic environmental disaster before embarking on a frantic mission to convince the world he’s humanity’s best chance at salvation. The satirical black comedy also features Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman, and Michael Stuhlbarg, creating an ensemble that matches Cruise’s commitment to his role.
