Vincent D’Onofrio Discusses ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Cancellation Ahead of Final Season
Marvel’s television lineup has been gradually shrinking, but few announcements this year have hit as hard as the recent news from the ‘Daredevil’ side of the MCU. For a series that fought its way back from a complete creative overhaul, the timing of this latest update feels particularly bittersweet.
The news confirms that ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ will conclude with its upcoming third season, marking the end of Disney+’s revival of the character after a tumultuous yet ultimately fulfilling journey back to screens. Vincent D’Onofrio, who has portrayed Wilson Fisk in multiple Marvel projects since 2015, spoke about the show’s conclusion, expressing heartfelt gratitude to fans for their loyalty throughout the series’ ups and downs, while hinting that the final season has much to offer.
The series’ ending was first reported on September 21, with sources indicating that cast members had already been informed that season three would be the series’ last. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this decision came about two months after production wrapped on the final season, with showrunner Dario Scardapane departing the project during post-production after Marvel chose not to renew his contract.
Vincent D’Onofrio on ‘DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN’ ending with Season 3:
“We so enjoyed bringing [the show] to you all. You stuck with us and I like to think we stuck with you. We have the final Season heading your way next year with some very cool stuff.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ has experienced an unusually rocky path to this point. Initially announced in 2022 with an 18-episode order under a different creative vision, the series underwent a significant reset following the 2023 Hollywood strikes, ultimately parting ways with original head writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord before Scardapane took over. Despite its tumultuous beginnings, the show gained traction upon its premiere, with the first season attracting an impressive 7.5 million viewers within its first five days.
Season two, which aired in spring 2026, saw the return of familiar faces like Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page and reintroduced Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, even as the show faced a notable decline in viewership compared to its debut season. That season concluded with a significant turning point, sending Matt Murdock to prison after his double life as Daredevil was publicly exposed, setting the stage for a more consequential final chapter now heading to Disney+.
Season three is set to feature a strong lineup of returning talent, with Charlie Cox and D’Onofrio leading a cast that also includes Wilson Bethel, Margarita Levieva, and Zabryna Guevara from previous seasons. The final season will reportedly also welcome back Netflix-era Marvel Television veterans Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Finn Jones as Danny Rand, and Élodie Yung as Elektra Natchios, providing longtime fans of the original street-level Marvel universe one last extended reunion before the story concludes.

D’Onofrio’s comments on the ending conveyed a genuinely appreciative tone, expressing his thanks to fans for their support throughout the show’s journey and reaffirming how much the character of Fisk has meant to him personally over the past decade in live-action Marvel projects. He also indicated that the final season holds many surprises, promising fans a satisfying conclusion even as the broader ‘Daredevil’ chapter of the MCU comes to a close.

As Marvel Television continues to streamline its Disney+ offerings following the cancellation of shows like ‘Wonder Man’ after its initial renewal, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ joins a growing list of series concluding as the studio shifts its television strategy. Season three is anticipated to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2027, providing fans one last opportunity to witness Murdock and Fisk clash before the story reaches its finale.
