Los Angeles has long celebrated Japanese pop culture at the ballpark, and the Dodgers have made a tradition of transforming these partnerships into unforgettable events. After a successful run with ‘One Piece’ themed promotions that returned for a second season in 2026, the team aimed for an even bigger spectacle for its final home game of the year.

This collaboration culminated in Godzilla Minus Zero Night, a partnership between the Dodgers and Toho, held during the team’s regular-season finale against the San Diego Padres. The event took place on Thursday, September 24, at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:10 PM, designed to generate excitement ahead of the King of the Monsters’ next cinematic release.

The night delivered the thrilling experience fans anticipated, featuring Godzilla making a special appearance on the stadium’s giant screen mid-game, roaring across the display in a moment that quickly went viral. This promotion was crafted to give Godzilla the kind of home-crowd treatment typically reserved for baseball’s biggest stars.

Fans who arrived early were generously rewarded. The first 40,000 attendees received an exclusive Godzilla Minus Zero bobblehead, limited to one per person with a valid ticket, while additional themed activities were rolled out around the stadium leading up to the event. After the final out, the celebration escalated with a Godzilla-themed drone show illuminating the night sky above Chavez Ravine.

Toho’s Keiji Ota, the company’s senior managing executive officer and Chief Godzilla Officer, described the partnership as a powerful legacy shared by both the Dodgers and Godzilla, stating he envisioned “the roar of the stadium crowd echoing across the globe,” capturing the very essence of Godzilla, as expressed in the team’s official announcement.

This promotion comes just weeks before ‘Godzilla Minus Zero,’ the eagerly awaited sequel to ‘Godzilla Minus One,’ which won Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards. Written, directed, and with visual effects overseen once again by Takashi Yamazaki, the new film is set in 1949, two years after its predecessor, continuing the Shikishima family’s story as they face a new threat.

The sequel will screen at the 2026 New York Film Festival on September 26 before its theatrical release in Japan on November 3, followed by its North American debut on November 6. Early trailers have hinted at the return of King Ghidorah, raising expectations for an even grander kaiju showdown than the original.

Lorenzo Sciarrino, the Dodgers’ Senior Vice President of Global Partnerships, called the collaboration the “perfect event” to conclude the team’s 2026 regular-season home schedule, and judging by the online reaction, fans wholeheartedly agreed. With Godzilla now dominating both the box office and the baseball diamond, the countdown to November has officially begun.
