‘American Horror Story‘ has returned, and the franchise quickly introduces a chilling new character that has fans buzzing on social media. Season 13, simply titled ’13’, kicked off with a three-episode premiere that reintroduces familiar faces while plunging viewers into a fresh mystery surrounding a disturbing figure known as Mr. Nas.

With returning witches, a resurrected serial killer, and a very ill old man on the thirteenth floor of a Manhattan building, the premiere offers horror fans plenty to dissect. At the heart of it all is Mr. Nas, and uncovering his true nature has become the season’s most intriguing early hook.

Episode one, titled ’13’, introduces Ben DeSoto, portrayed by Joey Pollari, a man plagued by an intense fear of the number thirteen, which clashes dramatically with his reality. Ben survives a plane crash that claims the lives of his girlfriend Kira and most of the other passengers.

A month later, an unharmed Ben arrives in New York at a building called the Apollyon, which translates to The Destroyer in Greek, for a job interview. He is directed to the thirteenth floor, where he meets Constance about a position as a night attendant in a room dominated by a painting of The Last Supper.

Ben’s new client is known only as Mr. Nas, who owns the entire thirteenth floor of the Apollyon. He is described as an elderly man with pale, flaky skin and claw-like hands, with Constance serving as his daytime caretaker. Ben is specifically hired as the nighttime attendant, meaning he ends up alone with Mr. Nas during the hours when strange occurrences begin.

Jessica Lange makes a triumphant return to the franchise as Constance Langdon, seamlessly slipping back into her role. Sarah Paulson also returns, playing both Cordelia Goode and Wilhemina Venable, while Evan Peters is already showcasing his versatility as both Tate Langdon and Kai Anderson.

Constance’s unsettling devotion to Mr. Nas quickly becomes one of the premiere’s most disturbing threads. During Ben’s first time bathing Mr. Nas, Constance instructs him to clean his client’s urethra with a cotton swab, and when Ben questions these peculiar care instructions, he is dismissed.

Her explanations for the increasingly bizarre happenings never quite add up. When Ben inquires about Mr. Nas moving unexpectedly, Constance claims he simply has Lewy body dementia, and when Ben notices dark liquid around the man’s mouth, she attributes it to a bleeding ulcer that never healed properly.

Each time Ben witnesses something inexplicable, Constance is right there with a neat medical explanation, which only serves to erode viewers’ trust in her.

Mr. Nas is not solely in the care of Constance and Ben. He also has a doctor named Dr. Phibes, played by John Waters, an unusually cheerful man whose medical bag contains old-fashioned remedies, including live snakes.

The warning signs surrounding Mr. Nas accumulate rapidly. Dr. Phibes conducts blood draws that appear far larger than what any dying patient should reasonably require, something Ben notices immediately, yet he is dismissed just as quickly.

The strangest moment of the early episodes occurs when Ben hears a noise, checks the room, and finds it completely empty. Exhausted, he lies down only for his client to suddenly reappear on the bed as if he had never left. In another unsettling twist, Mr. Nas vomits a black sludge, suggesting he is somehow linked to the deaths occurring elsewhere in the narrative.

Viewers eventually discover that the Apollyon, the very building where Mr. Nas resides, is actually a portal to hell, which recontextualizes everything happening around him.

As Ben unravels the mystery of his new client, the rest of the season is building its own chaos. Constance Langdon orchestrates a sinister gathering with thirteen leading ladies, including the Black Dahlia, revealing plans for a special guest on the thirteenth day. Meanwhile, Ben grows increasingly curious about the strange paintings filling Mr. Nas’s apartment, all of which connect back to the number thirteen, while a separate storyline follows Twisty the Clown getting rejected from a clown school and reacting with predictable violence.

Ryan Murphy has been teasing this season for years, and the ambition is evident. He announced that the season would consist of thirteen episodes and described it as an Avengers-style crossover pulling characters and threads from every previous installment of the anthology.

Fedor Steer plays Mr. Nas, and his casting was confirmed months before the premiere aired, though the character’s true nature remained a mystery until now. His involvement in ‘American Horror Story’ Season 13 was first reported back in April 2026.

With three episodes down and ten still to go, Mr. Nas remains the season’s central enigma, a rotting, sludge-coughing mystery tied to a building that leads straight to hell. What do you think is truly living inside that apartment on the thirteenth floor, and how far do you think Ben is willing to go before he finally walks away from the Apollyon for good?
