Le Grand Rex is one of Paris’s most iconic movie theaters, renowned for hosting premieres and major events for decades. The sell-out of the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ screening at Le Grand Rex highlights the excitement among French audiences for the upcoming Marvel film.

Although the film’s release is still months away, the buzz is palpable. Tickets have been available in various formats since the summer, and the early sales figures have been impressive. A recent screening in Paris has added to this excitement.

Box office analyst Luiz Fernando reported that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in France flocked to the December 16 midnight screening at Le Grand Rex. The pre-sales sold out in a mere 6 minutes, a speed typically associated with concert tickets.

Sales for this special fan screening opened at midnight on September 27, and fans were advised to set their alarms, anticipating fierce competition for seats. This warning proved to be accurate, as some fans experienced website issues while trying to secure their spots.

In response to the overwhelming demand, Le Grand Rex announced three additional screenings on December 16 at 4 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 8 p.m., with pre-sales starting on Monday at 9 a.m. The theater also scheduled eight more showings throughout the holiday season.

These extra screenings will take place on December 19, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30, all at 8 p.m., except for a 6:45 p.m. showing on Christmas Eve, and on January 1 at 8 p.m. The message to fans who missed out on the midnight screening is clear: there are still opportunities to catch the film in the Grand Large auditorium.

The Grand Large screen, installed in 1988, measures an impressive 300 square meters, stretching 81 feet wide and 37 feet tall. The film will be showcased in Infinity Vision, Marvel’s certified format for theaters, ensuring that they meet strict technical standards.

Le Grand Rex has been building excitement, having previously screened ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in its Infinity Vision format in anticipation of the new film. Fans have clearly taken notice.

For those looking for a premium experience, Le Grand Rex is offering a VIP format priced at 50 euros. This ticket allows fans to skip the line, access a private mezzanine level, and enjoy a glass of champagne or another drink along with a treat. These packages are limited to just 20 people per screening.

Given how quickly the midnight tickets sold out, these VIP spots are likely to be snatched up just as fast. The exclusivity adds to the allure and fits the special atmosphere the theater aims to create.

French audiences have an added reason to celebrate, as ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ will premiere in France on December 16, two days ahead of its U.S. release on December 18. The theater’s first screening at 12:01 a.m. means that Parisians can see the film in the very first moments of its official French release.

Other cinema chains are also preparing for the film’s release. Pathé began pre-sales on September 28 at 9 a.m. for its 4DX, ScreenX, and Dolby Cinema sessions, including a special Dolby version that promises several minutes of exclusive footage. This highlights the competitive landscape for premium seating options.

The excitement in France reflects a broader trend. In July, the film raked in $16.5 million in advance ticket sales on its first day, despite being offered only in premium formats at 1,000 domestic theaters. Disney later opened full advance sales about four months ahead of the release, with reports indicating the film is tracking 65% ahead of the pace set by ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ after just two days.

The film is set to face stiff competition during its opening weekend, going up against ‘Dune: Part Three,’ which will dominate the IMAX screens for three weeks. Thus, premium formats like Infinity Vision will be crucial. Directed by the Russo brothers, the film features Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom, along with a cast of heroes from various universes.
