Robert Downey Jr. is set to don the mask of Victor von Doom, sparking curiosity about whether the Latverian monarch will be working alone. Speculation continues to swirl around a potential lineup of allies, and Marvel has remained tight-lipped about any confirmations. This has led to a frenzy among fans eager to discover who will support Doctor Doom when the Russo brothers unveil ‘Doomsday’.

So, who might be part of Doctor Doom’s team according to the most prominent rumors? Currently, the whispers suggest a combination of masked enforcers, multiverse villains, and one unexpected sorcerer. However, since Marvel has yet to verify these claims, it’s wise to take this information with a grain of salt.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo with a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, ‘Doomsday’ boasts a massive ensemble cast, with Marvel indicating that additional casting announcements are still forthcoming. This leaves ample opportunity for surprise villains that have yet to be officially revealed.

On the hero front, Marvel and Downey have already indicated that numerous factions will clash with Doom. This includes the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, both Captains America, Thor, Wakanda, Namor, and the Thunderbolts, now referred to as the New Avengers. In contrast, the details surrounding Doom’s side remain murky, which is why speculation has been rampant.

Insider reports suggest that Doom will have several masked sidekicks, comprising both men and women. This information, shared by Daniel Richtman, aligns with the growing belief that Victor will not be alone when the conflict begins.

One of the most discussed theories revolves around a villain faction known as the Harbingers of Doom. This rumored team could include Captain Hydra, Maestro Hulk, King Thanos, and various variants of Doctor Doom, resembling a compilation of alternate reality nightmares.

Comic fans will recognize the influence of Jonathan Hickman’s storytelling, as this concept is reportedly inspired by the Parliament of Doom and linked to the Incursion crisis. This fits seamlessly into a multiverse saga that has been building toward world collisions for years.

Things get complicated here. Insider Alex Perez hinted at the Harbingers name and later seemed to support claims that Victor will be accompanied by Doom Variants or Doombots. However, Perez also mentioned that the group might not actually carry that name, expressing doubt that they would have time to create a team name. Thus, the lineup could be real even if the branding is not.

Another intriguing element is Boris, a character that has fans buzzing. According to scooper James Mack, Boris is a variant of Doctor Strange who would act as Doom’s sidekick, wielding a sling ring and revealing the reason for his alliance in the film’s third act. This would present a very different kind of ally for Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer.

In the comics, Boris has a rich history as a longtime servant, confidant, caretaker, and advisor to Doom in Latveria, making an MCU version who casts spells a bold reinterpretation. An earlier leaked image reportedly depicted Boris in a Latverian mask with a slot for a third eye, further fueling the Strange connection.

The theories don’t end there. A group of masked Latverian witches has been hinted at, and Downey’s Doom will likely be supported by another masked enforcer. With marketing suggesting that Victor will refer to the heroes’ lives as stolen lives, it appears that this villain believes he is rectifying reality rather than destroying it.

The most shocking twist could be that Doom’s team might include the very heroes he is supposed to threaten. One insider claims that Victor seeks the Fantastic Four’s assistance with the Incursions, leading them to the MCU to warn everyone before heading to the X-Men universe. If true, this would position Doom as a temporary ally to Marvel’s First Family.

This idea carries significant emotional weight. In the mid-credits scene of the Fantastic Four film, Doom kneels before Franklin Richards and removes his mask. Some speculate that his interest in the family extends beyond a grudge and is deeply tied to Franklin, which could complicate his motives.

This also raises the stakes for the numerous heroes preparing to confront him. Even Doctor Strange is expected to be connected to the incursion storyline, making his loyalties one of the biggest mysteries of the film. If Marvel is indeed playing three-dimensional chess, Doom’s crew may comprise foes, friends, and terrifying variants all at once, leaving fans to debate until the release whether Cumberbatch’s Strange truly stands with Doom or if Boris is merely a clever red herring.
