‘God of War Laufey’ New Video Shows Faye Confronting Kratos as Pre-Orders Begin
Few franchises have reinvented themselves as boldly as ‘God of War.’ The series transitioned from Greek mythology to Norse fatherhood and now embarks on a new and surprising journey. The latest images from ‘God of War Laufey’ provide a closer look at this evolution, arriving just as pre-orders are set to open.
Santa Monica Studio is taking a significant risk by focusing on a character whose narrative has largely remained untold. The game centers around Faye, the wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus, who has primarily been depicted through memories and legends. Now, she takes center stage.
A fresh set of images showcases Faye, with her fiery red-orange hair, standing face to face with Kratos in a stone hall illuminated by a burning brazier. Another image reveals a vibrant, alien landscape filled with colorful flowers and glowing skies.
These images appear to originate from PlayStation’s latest blog post, which teased new screenshots and footage of Faye’s combat. It also outlined the pre-order bonuses and details about the Digital Deluxe Edition. Pre-orders will go live on September 29 at 10:00 a.m. local time.

The blog also highlighted a new weapon called the Serpent Bow. This enchanted bow, which can shift form like a serpent, allows Faye to unleash deadly arrow strikes alongside her other attacks with remarkable speed. By fully pressing the aim trigger, players can achieve more precise targeting and an extended draw distance. The bow is designed to be effective in both close-quarters and ranged combat, adding a new dimension to Faye’s fighting style, which is described as fast, controlled, and relentless.

‘God of War Laufey’ is set to launch on PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. The narrative unfolds after Faye’s death, as she awakens in a strange land following her funeral. She realizes that the plans she devised to safeguard Kratos and Atreus are now in jeopardy.
To protect them, she must navigate through the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods, where fierce deities from various mythologies compete for dominance. This world is teeming with perilous magic, and reports indicate that her adversaries will include Sekhmet, the Egyptian goddess of war, and Begtse, the Mongolian god of war.
This game marks the 11th installment in the series and is the first mainline entry where Kratos is not the protagonist. The story occurs concurrently with the events of ‘God of War’ (2018) and ‘God of War Ragnarök.’ Faye, a formidable Jötnar, passed away just before the 2018 game commenced.
Game Informer noted that she will be accompanied by a talking gelatinous cube and a sword ribbon, an unusual duo for the franchise. Forbes described the game as a love story amidst all the action, illustrating how far the series has evolved from its origins.
Deborah Ann Woll reprises her role as Faye, while Christopher Judge returns as Kratos. Jack Quaid voices a character named Phranque, and Perlina Lau portrays Rue. Ariel Lawrence serves as the game director, with Cory Barlog as the head of creative at Santa Monica Studio.
Woll first portrayed the character in ‘God of War Ragnarök.’ Now, she leads her own game, enhanced by performance capture technology that brings each character to life. The studio aims to illuminate the story of a character whose journey has remained largely unexplored.
Kratos is not absent for good. At San Diego Comic-Con, Barlog confirmed that a new Kratos-led game is already in the works, which will directly follow the events of ‘God of War Laufey.’ He mentioned that everything introduced in Faye’s journey is intended to lay the groundwork for this future installment.
Additional projects are also underway, including a Greek Trilogy Remake featuring TC Carson returning as Kratos. The Prime Video series has been put on hold following an injury and recasting of actor Ryan Hurst. Santa Monica is currently managing four God of War projects simultaneously.
The release carries a notable hardware aspect as well. Barlog confirmed that the game will be available on physical discs. With Sony planning to cease disc production in 2028, it will be among the last PS5 exclusives to offer a physical edition.
This makes the February release date feel even more significant. It arrives earlier than many anticipated, and fans have already begun to clear their schedules. With pre-orders now open, the countdown has officially begun.
