Mark Ruffalo Spotted on Set of ‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’ as Re-Release Hints at Doctor Doom
Marvel has ingeniously found a way to keep fans engaged ahead of its next major event. Rather than just a standard teaser, the studio has re-released an entire blockbuster, adding fresh scenes to the mix. A recent behind-the-scenes photo featuring Mark Ruffalo on the set of ‘Avengers Endgame: Encore’ has sparked even more excitement.
The image, posted by Instagram user anthonyleonardi3, captures a cheerful Ruffalo alongside a man in a cap, both playfully pointing at each other. The backdrop resembles a stark, tunnel-like room, reminiscent of the underground bunker featured in one of the newly added scenes.
Marvel re-launched ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in theaters on September 25 as ‘Avengers Endgame: Encore.’ This slightly extended version includes about 4 minutes of new footage that directly ties into ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ The new scenes feature characters such as Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner.
The added material showcases an altered conclusion for Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, a cameo by Loki, a Banner scene during the credits, and a moment involving the TVA. Anthony Russo has indicated that this new ending marks the beginning of ‘Doomsday,’ while the directors aimed to preserve the essence of the original film.
Ruffalo’s role is generating significant buzz. After the credits roll, Banner is seen in an underground military facility, recording a video message about the aftermath of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day.’ In that film, he loses control and transforms into the Hulk due to Jean Grey’s influence, leading to his detention.
In the scene, he appears with grey hair and a beard, explaining that he is two miles underground to prevent the Hulk from escaping and to ensure no one can rescue him. He is also developing a gamma treatment or serum to control his alter ego, although his confidence quickly fades.
As Banner speaks, the facility’s lights and computers start to malfunction. Doctor Doom makes an off-screen appearance, stating he has come to collect him, followed by a surge of green magic filling the room. Banner then transforms into the Hulk, and the scene concludes with only a glowing sigil remaining on the floor.
This moment is chilling and highlights Doom’s formidable power. It also clarifies a mystery: Ruffalo was initially absent from the original ‘Doomsday’ cast announcement, but this scene confirms his involvement in the film. His character list now includes ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which is currently in post-production.
The strategy appears to be paying off at the box office. ‘Encore’ grossed an estimated $86 million worldwide during its opening weekend, with $26 million coming from domestic sales and $60 million from international markets. Disney has reported that this marks the second-highest global debut for a re-release.

The film was screened in over 3,000 theaters, including more than 1,300 Infinity Vision screens, which accounted for approximately 52% of the opening weekend’s earnings. It debuted at No. 1 in China with $13.5 million. Marvel Studios has also surpassed $35 billion globally across 38 films.
These results have reignited a familiar competition. ‘Endgame’ currently stands at around $2.885 billion worldwide, trailing behind ‘Avatar’s $2.92 billion. This means the original could potentially reclaim the title of the all-time highest-grossing film before its theatrical run concludes.
Audience reactions have been overwhelmingly positive as well. The film boasts a 96% Verified Moviegoer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and PostTrak polling awards it five out of five stars. These strong figures bode well for the upcoming December release.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to release on December 18, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with Downey portraying Doom. This film will unite characters from across the multiverse, and ‘Encore’ has confirmed that Banner will play a role in the narrative. What lies ahead for him after this confrontation remains uncertain.
For fans, the behind-the-scenes image serves as a delightful reminder of how these new scenes were crafted. It also provides a glimpse into a moment that concludes with just a scream and a symbol.
