‘9-1-1’ Star Rob Lowe Reveals His Most Terrifying On-Screen Kiss Was Not With Demi Moore
Rob Lowe has established himself as a leading romantic figure in Hollywood for decades. From his Brat Pack beginnings to his roles in network television, he has shared kisses with numerous famous co-stars. This makes it quite challenging to pinpoint Rob Lowe’s best on-screen kiss.
During a recent episode of ‘Watch What Happens Live’, host Andy Cohen put Lowe in the hot seat with a game of “Plead the Fifth.” He listed some of Lowe’s notable on-screen kisses, including those with Demi Moore, Rashida Jones, Kim Cattrall, Calista Flockhart, and Meg Tilly. Without any hesitation, the 62-year-old actor revealed his choice.
Lowe named Nastassja Kinski as his most memorable on-screen kiss. The two starred together in the 1984 film ‘The Hotel New Hampshire’, and Lowe shared that at that time, she was likely the most beautiful woman he had ever encountered. He admitted to feeling intimidated and very scared during that scene.
‘The Hotel New Hampshire’ is a comedy-drama directed by Tony Richardson, adapted from John Irving’s 1981 novel. The film also featured Jodie Foster, Beau Bridges, and Paul McCrane, along with Wilford Brimley and Seth Green. Although it was deemed a box office disappointment, critics praised it for being a faithful adaptation.
At the time of filming, Lowe was young and Kinski was already a well-established star. He was also dating Melissa Gilbert, known for her role in ‘Little House on the Prairie’, while making the movie, which likely contributed to the lasting impression of that scene.
Lowe’s on-screen romances are well-documented, with his connection to Moore being the most notable. The pair starred together in ‘About Last Night’ in 1986 and also appeared in ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’. On Kelly Ripa’s ‘Let’s Talk Off Camera’ podcast in 2024, he revealed that he and Moore briefly dated in the 1980s before she became engaged to Emilio Estevez.
Despite their past, the two have maintained a friendship. Lowe mentioned that they are part of a group chat discussing a potential ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ sequel, which he noted is progressing slower than he would prefer as they search for the right writer and storyline.
In his personal life, Lowe’s most significant relationship is with makeup artist Sheryl Berkoff. They met on a blind date in 1983 but didn’t start dating until 1989, marrying in 1991. They have two sons, John Owen and Matthew Edward.
Lowe credits Berkoff with helping him achieve sobriety and transform his life. On the 2023 podcast ‘Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi’, he referred to her as his best friend and emphasized that a marriage rooted in friendship is resilient through life’s ups and downs. He added that marriage requires more forgiveness than effort and knowing which battles to choose.

The interview covered a variety of topics. Lowe was also asked to rank the Brat Pack films and mentioned that a Netflix documentary about his life is in the works, promising an honest look at the triumphs, scandals, and unforgettable moments from his extensive Hollywood career.
He remains active on television as the host of ‘The Floor’. However, for fans of 1980s cinema, the standout takeaway may be Lowe’s revelation about Kinski. Among his many co-stars, it was ‘The Hotel New Hampshire’ that left a lasting mark on him.
