Jim Carrey has distanced himself from the Hollywood limelight in recent years. After announcing his retirement in 2022, he has focused more on painting, spirituality, and family rather than promotional events. Thus, his rare public appearance in Paris this year was quite the spectacle.

The event was the 51st César Awards on February 26 at L’Olympia, where Carrey was honored with the prestigious honorary César, following Julia Roberts. Michel Gondry, who directed him in ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’, introduced him on stage. Carrey delivered a heartfelt speech entirely in French, which earned him a standing ovation.

That speech turned out to be a precursor to even bigger news. On Wednesday, September 30, a spokesperson confirmed to People that Carrey has tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Min Ah.

This wedding comes just seven months after the couple made their public debut at the César Awards. While details remain scarce, TMZ reported that the ceremony was an intimate, private event in Los Angeles, with no specifics disclosed by the representative.

This marks Carrey’s third marriage. He was previously married to Melissa Womer from 1987 to 1995, with whom he shares a daughter, Jane Erin Carrey. He also wed his ‘Dumb and Dumber’ co-star Lauren Holly in 1996, but that marriage lasted only about a year.

Min Ah maintains a low public profile. She is an actress and artist based in Los Angeles, also known as Minzi. The couple was first spotted together in February 2022, leaving a charity comedy show hosted by Judd Apatow at Largo in Los Angeles.

Beyond this, not much is known about their relationship timeline, as Carrey has kept his personal life largely private. Before Min Ah, he was linked to his ‘Kidding’ co-star Ginger Gonzaga and had a long-term relationship with Jenny McCarthy from 2005 to 2010.

The César Awards marked the first time the public saw Carrey and Min Ah together. During the ceremony, Carrey referred to her as his “sublime companion” in his French speech, as Variety reported. The audience applauded as he acknowledged his daughter, grandson Jackson, and Min Ah.

He also paid tribute to his late father, Percy Joseph Carrey, crediting him with instilling the values of love, generosity, and laughter. The César Awards’ general delegate, Gregory Caulier, later informed Variety that Carrey’s visit had been planned since summer, and he had worked on the French speech for months. Carrey attended with his partner, daughter, grandson, and 12 close friends and family members.

The appearance sparked a flurry of social media conspiracy theories, with some users questioning whether the man on stage was truly Carrey. Caulier dismissed these rumors as irrelevant, calling the night a historic moment. In retrospect, the speech serves as a sweet public acknowledgment of a relationship that is now official.

With the wedding confirmed, attention shifts back to Carrey’s quieter new chapter. He has stepped away from Hollywood and seems content with a more subdued life, although his César appearance demonstrated he can still enchant an audience. Fans who remember him from ‘The Mask’, ‘The Truman Show’, and ‘Bruce Almighty’ are now celebrating a personal milestone rather than a film role.

The privacy surrounding the marriage reflects how the couple has approached their relationship from the start. There was no extravagant engagement story or leaked wedding photos. For now, this discretion may be the most telling aspect of the news.
