Few pop culture icons have aged as gracefully as Lou Ferrigno. The bodybuilder gained fame portraying the green-skinned hero in the CBS series ‘The Incredible Hulk’, which aired from 1977 to 1982. Even after all these years, his gym routine continues to capture attention online.

Ferrigno began weight training at just 13 years old and rose to prominence through the 1977 documentary ‘Pumping Iron’, which chronicled his rivalry with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He went on to win numerous titles and became one of the most recognizable figures in bodybuilding. Following this success, he took on acting roles in films like ‘Hercules’ and ‘Sinbad of the Seven Seas’.

This week, he made headlines with a unique appearance. On Wednesday, Ferrigno met Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter’s Square after the pontiff’s general audience, fulfilling a lifelong dream. He even posed with the iconic fists-down smashing gesture reminiscent of the Hulk’s transformation. This visit is part of a busy schedule in Italy, which also includes a stop at fitness equipment maker Panatta in Apiro on October 1 and 2.

On October 2, CoveredGeekly shared a clip from Ferrigno’s Instagram, showcasing that at 74, the actor still possesses incredible strength. The roughly 40-second video features him powering through a heavy lift while wearing a T-shirt with his name. In the caption, Ferrigno expressed his continued enjoyment of pumping iron after all these years.

The video quickly gained traction among fans, amassing thousands of likes and over 200 bookmarks. This is just the latest in a series of training videos Ferrigno has shared throughout the year.

This isn’t the first time Ferrigno’s workouts have gone viral. In July, he posted footage of himself performing T-bar rows, noting that he and Schwarzenegger are still doing them over 50 years later. He reminisced about the days of ‘Pumping Iron’, when there were no fancy machines—just iron, blood, sweat, and tears.

Fans responded with nostalgia, some humorously suggesting that Ferrigno might be outlifting Schwarzenegger these days, while others expressed hope for a 50th-anniversary edition of ‘Pumping Iron’. The documentary is set to commemorate its 50th anniversary since its Cannes screening in 2027, according to Italian outlet AnconaToday, adding another layer to Ferrigno’s current visibility.

Ferrigno has shared insights into his philosophy for longevity. He emphasizes the importance of embracing the aging process, noting that after age 60, tendons receive less blood flow and become more brittle. According to BodyBuildingBros, he attributes his youthful appearance to consistent exercise and mindful eating.

This approach also aided him during a significant health challenge. Ferrigno has mentioned that staying active was vital for his recovery from shoulder surgery, where 95% of his tendon was reattached. He believes being in peak physical condition is crucial for joint surgeries, as many face lengthy rehabilitation.

At GalaxyCon Richmond earlier this year, he shared with fans that his anti-aging routine revolves around consistency, moderation, and listening to his body. He enjoys hearing how the Hulk has inspired others to get fit, especially after overcoming his own hearing and speech impairments.

Today, Ferrigno and his daughter, Shanna Ferrigno, operate Ferrigno Fit, a platform dedicated to health and fitness. He consistently emphasizes that it’s never too late to start, regardless of age or body type. For long-time fans, witnessing him still lifting serves as a reminder of why the character has resonated with audiences for so long.

The timing feels particularly relevant. With the Hulk remaining a significant figure in contemporary superhero films, the original Hulk serves as a reminder of the legacy’s beginnings. Ferrigno also lent his voice to the character in the 2008 film ‘The Incredible Hulk’.

For a man who first gained fame for his strength, the latest viral clip indicates that his dedication to fitness remains unwavering. At 74, Ferrigno continues to demonstrate that commitment knows no age limit.
