Dakota Johnson Dazzles in a Backless Black Gown on the ‘Verity’ Press Tour
Dakota Johnson’s appearances on the red carpet for ‘Verity’ have transformed into a fashion spectacle. Collaborating with her longtime stylist Kate Young, she has utilized the press tour to showcase some of her most daring outfits. Young has previously noted that Johnson has a penchant for shiny fashion, a style inspired by watching her mother, Melanie Griffith, don glittering gowns.
The tour has featured a series of striking looks. On September 24 in London, Johnson attended the UK gala screening in an ivory Colleen Allen lace gown paired with black Fleur du Mal lingerie. At the VMAs, she opted for a custom blush Calvin Klein gown, and during the New York premiere on September 29, she wowed in a custom white Calvin Klein Collection two-piece adorned with crystal fringe and a high-slit skirt.
Now, there’s a fresh look to discuss. A recent photo of Johnson reveals her in a stunning floor-length black halter gown with a dramatically open back. In one image, she poses in profile with her bangs framing her face, while in another, she sits against a blue backdrop, showcasing a silver bracelet on her wrist.

The gown is the Gia Studios Delvey Halter Dress in Techno Wool, which she wore during an appearance on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ in New York while promoting the film. It features a gracefully draped halter neckline that transitions into a striking open-back silhouette. The dress is held together by a single knot at the back and retails for $928.
A bold red manicure provided a vibrant contrast to the all-black ensemble. Marie Claire highlighted that the design from the Vietnamese label was captivating, yet the full-coverage front ensured it remained suitable for television. This minimalist approach allows the back to make a powerful statement.

This look marks a significant tonal shift. Earlier in the tour, Johnson embraced sheer styles, from the lace gown in London to a sheer red Emily Dawn Long backless tank she wore at a New York press event on September 19. Fashion Times noted a gradual transition towards lighter shades as the tour progressed, making the sleek black gown feel like a purposeful change.
The black gown also follows a memorable moment on the red carpet. At the New York premiere, which marked the final stop of the press tour, her co-star Anne Hathaway wore a black Atelier Prabal Gurung, making Johnson’s ivory fringe look even more striking in photographs. This time, Johnson claims the black dress for herself.

The promotional efforts seem to have paid off. ‘Verity’ premiered on October 2 and earned $14.5 million on its opening day, including previews, positioning it for a projected total of around $32 million and a No. 1 finish. Johnson is also set to host the upcoming episode of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ indicating that her promotional journey is far from over.
