New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Poster From Comic-Con Málaga Hypes Fans for Scarlet Witch Return
Marvel has turned the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ campaign into an intriguing guessing game, and discussions about a potential Scarlet Witch return are intensifying with each new reveal. At this past July’s San Diego Comic-Con, the studio showcased costumes for three enigmatic Latverian Witches in green, yellow, and purple, leaving fans speculating about their identities.
The theory suggesting that one of these witches could be Wanda Maximoff has a logical basis. Elizabeth Olsen’s character was last seen in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ where she seemingly sacrificed herself to destroy the Darkhold, leaving her fate uncertain.
However, complications arise as Olsen has consistently stated that she is not part of ‘Doomsday’ and remains unaware of when Wanda will return to the MCU. Despite this, the rumor mill continues to churn, and Marvel is adept at keeping the speculation alive.
The latest buzz originated from Comic-Con Málaga, where Marvel Studios unveiled a new poster with the caption “Straight from Comic-Con Málaga” in their post on X, followed by the eye-catching line: “Witching season has arrived.” ComicBook.com highlighted this tagline, noting that it has fans more excited about a Scarlet Witch return than ever before.

The newly shared artwork, available in HD through various outlets and fans, depicts Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) seated in his throne room, flanked by three masked Latverian Witches. This design is a variation of a previous poster, still featuring the tagline “12.18.26 IS DOOMSDAY” alongside the Marvel Studios logo.
One of the most notable details is the costumes. At the San Diego showing, the witches donned green, yellow, and purple, but in this latest poster, the witch at the back is now dressed in red. Fans quickly picked up on this change, interpreting it as a potential hint that the Scarlet Witch may have fallen under Doom’s influence.
Color-based theories have since emerged. Fans are speculating that the witches could represent Clea in purple, Wanda in red, and Sylvie in green, reflecting the colors associated with their respective magic. Wanda and Clea were last seen in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ while Sylvie appeared throughout both seasons of ‘Loki.’
None of these theories are confirmed, and the identities behind the masks remain a mystery. ComicBook.com points out that it has already been established that ‘Doomsday’ will feature witches, so the tagline might not necessarily pertain to Wanda. Other theories suggest characters like Clea, the Ancient One, or Mordo, with one leak hinting that a witch could be a shape-shifter posing as Peggy Carter.
Nevertheless, the excitement is palpable. A rumor from insider MyTimeToShineHello suggests that Olsen will indeed reprise her role as Wanda, and her movement coach and stunt double, Jennifer White, recently posted a cryptic Instagram story that has fueled further speculation. Additionally, there are reports of reshoots aimed at incorporating more cameos, although these remain unverified.
There’s also a comic book angle to consider. One outlet notes that if Wanda returns, the Russos might adapt elements from ‘The Children’s Crusade,’ a storyline involving Doctor Doom. Another rumor indicates that Doom could exert control over her, potentially reversing her encounter with Tony Stark in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’

The poster was revealed during Comic-Con Málaga, which took place from October 1 to October 4 in Spain. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to hit theaters on December 18, and tickets are already available for purchase.
Marvel has demonstrated its skill in generating buzz. Fans may be reading too much into a four-word tagline, but the presence of a coven of masked witches is precisely the kind of misdirection the studio is known for. Regardless, the campaign has reignited discussions about Wanda.
