Stephen King’s iconic first novel has been reimagined for television, and fans are eager to discover the real-life locations behind the horror. The eight episodes of the limited series are set to premiere on Wednesday, October 7, making the ‘Carrie’ filming locations a hot topic among horror enthusiasts.

Mike Flanagan’s adaptation did not film in Maine as one might expect. Instead, production took place in Vancouver, with filming occurring from June 16 to October 17 in 2025. Various neighborhoods in Canada served as the backdrop for this fictional New England town, so let’s explore where the cameras truly rolled.

The production utilized The Bridge Studios for its sound stage work. The series is a collaboration between Intrepid Pictures, Red Room Pictures, and Amazon MGM Studios. Such studio work is essential for managing interior scenes that require complete control, perfectly aligning with the story’s claustrophobic themes.

Flanagan was familiar with the Vancouver area, having filmed all of his Netflix horror series there, except for ‘The Haunting of Hill House’. He returned to the city in mid-February to begin preparations for the series, allowing the crew ample time to lay the groundwork before filming commenced.

As filming wrapped up, the showrunner publicly celebrated the occasion, expressing excitement for audiences to experience what the team had created. After spending about four months in the city, it was a fitting farewell.

The most significant real-world location is the school where much of Carrie White’s anguish unfolds. Eric Hamber School in Vancouver stands in for Carrie’s high school, known as Ewen High School in King’s novel. According to Daily Hive, the building was transformed into Ewen High School during the shoot.

Fans got a glimpse of the campus when the full trailer was released. Various locations within Eric Hamber can be spotted in the official trailer, including classrooms, a changeroom, and a gymnasium—exactly the types of spaces that define a high school horror narrative.

Sharp-eyed viewers may also experience a sense of déjà vu. The school is located in the Shaughnessy neighborhood of Vancouver, adjacent to VanDusen Botanical Garden, and previously served as Dancing Elk High School in ‘Juno’. Its parking lot was also featured in the television series ’21 Jump Street’.

King’s narrative is set in the fictional town of Chamberlain, which the production transformed Cloverdale, BC into. This small-town makeover provides the series with a relatable, lived-in backdrop before chaos ensues.

Cloverdale has already been showcased in the marketing materials. A dramatic scene filmed there features prominently in the new trailer. Anyone familiar with the story’s conclusion will recognize why a fire in the town is such a striking image.

The filming also had a positive impact beyond the screen. Paul Orazietti, executive director of the Cloverdale BIA, noted that filming is crucial for the community’s economy. For a neighborhood that stood in for a Maine town, the attention is a welcome benefit.

The cast also spent considerable time in these locations. The drama features Summer H. Howell, Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard. Howell secured the title role after an extensive audition process that saw nearly 1,500 actors vying for the part.

The shoot also served as a reunion for several familiar faces. Michael Trucco and Katee Sackhoff from ‘Battlestar Galactica’ reunited in Vancouver for the series. Many of Flanagan’s regular collaborators appeared, including Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Crystal Balint, and Michael Trucco, while Heather Graham was also in Vancouver for filming.

With the finished product nearing release, the series will close Primetime at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 18, before all eight episodes become available simultaneously in over 240 countries and territories. When viewers spot Eric Hamber’s gymnasium on screen, will that familiarity ease the tension or make Ewen High feel even more unsettlingly real?
