The casting mystery surrounding Adria Arjona’s role in ‘Man of Tomorrow’ has captivated DCU fans for months. Speculation has swirled about whether the ‘Andor’ star will portray Wonder Woman, Maxima, or another character, with each social media update being closely analyzed.

This intrigue began when The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Arjona had been cast in a mystery role for the upcoming ‘Superman’ sequel after several screen tests. While earlier reports suggested she might be playing Maxima, the accuracy of that claim remained uncertain.

On October 4, the buzz intensified when Frank Grillo, who portrays Rick Flag Sr., shared a fan-made poster for ‘Man of Tomorrow’ on his Instagram Story. The poster depicted Arjona as Wonder Woman, prompting Gunn to clarify the situation.

Gunn took to Threads to humorously suggest that Grillo shared the image simply because he liked seeing himself in it. He assured fans that Grillo was unaware of Arjona’s role in the DCU, or if she even has a minor cameo in the film.

Gunn expressed that the reactions to Grillo’s post were exaggerated. Notably, he neither confirmed nor denied the Wonder Woman speculation.

He also shared a private text conversation with Grillo, where he humorously remarked that Grillo was causing confusion by posting about Wonder Woman and Blue Beetle, suggesting that fans would be disappointed.

Grillo later apologized, explaining that he had seen the poster multiple times and decided to share it, admitting he was unsure about the details. He promised to refrain from further posts. Gunn noted that their exchange allowed him to address the situation while having some fun at Grillo’s expense.

Arjona’s casting was confirmed at CinemaCon, but the specific character remains unverified. Reports suggest she will portray Maxima, an alien queen known for her infatuation with Superman, but Gunn emphasized that he was not confirming this. He also quickly refuted an earlier Deadline report, asserting that all major roles had been announced.

Despite the uncertainty, the Wonder Woman theory persists. Gunn has previously stated that Arjona would make an excellent Wonder Woman and mentioned that fans overreacted to him following her on Instagram. Arjona has been cautious in her responses; when asked about Wonder Woman, she neither confirmed nor denied anything, instead referring to Gunn and Peter Safran as family and expressing her excitement to be part of the DCU.

Her boyfriend, Jason Momoa, added to the speculation by suggesting that Wonder Woman would be a fantastic match for his character Lobo, playfully hinting that Arjona would excel in the role. When asked directly if she was Wonder Woman or Maxima, Arjona laughed and joked that answering would get her in trouble with Safran and Gunn.

Set to release in July 2027, the film will follow Superman and Lex Luthor as they confront Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger. David Corenswet returns as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Filming is reportedly complete.

As noted by ComicBook.com, while Arjona could potentially be playing Wonder Woman, if she is, Grillo remains unaware. Until further clarification from Gunn or Warner Bros., the speculation is likely to continue.
