Marvel has been gradually revealing new promo art for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and as the December release approaches, the pace has intensified. The latest wave of promotional material is transforming an already large ensemble into a series of character-focused spotlights.

Recently, Marvel unveiled a new one-sheet following the film’s debut at Comic-Con Málaga, showcasing Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom alongside three masked Latverian Witches. Fans have been actively speculating about the identities behind the masks, with names like Wanda Maximoff, Clea, and Sylvie emerging as popular guesses.

On October 4, new promo art highlighted Sue Storm, Black Panther, Mystique, and Yelena Belova, along with additional pieces featuring the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Avengers. Fans have been creatively pairing characters on social media ever since, and now there’s another exciting matchup to analyze.

MCU Film News shared the latest promo on October 5, featuring John Walker and Johnny Storm side by side. The artwork is divided into two glowing panels, with a gold one for Walker displaying an Avengers ‘A’ and a blue one for the Human Torch marked with the Fantastic Four ‘4’, beneath the phrase ‘Heroes Assemble.’

Walker is depicted in his red, white, and black U.S. Agent suit, complete with a beret and beard, holding a shield at his side. In contrast, Johnny Storm is shown mid-leap from the other panel, clad in a blue Fantastic Four jacket and engulfed in flames.

This design effectively encapsulates the film’s concept, bringing together characters from various corners of the franchise in a single frame. The pairing also serves as a fun inside joke for fans familiar with the actors.

Wyatt Russell portrays Walker, who was selected by the U.S. government to take over as Captain America in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ but lost the title after a tragic incident involving a member of the Flag Smashers. He later joined the team introduced as the Thunderbolts in ‘Thunderbolts’, which has since been rebranded as part of the New Avengers.

Russell has previously mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that his portrayal of Walker has evolved significantly between projects, and he anticipates a notably different version in ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ This evolution sets up an intriguing contrast for the character, who is competitive and eager to prove himself.

Joseph Quinn plays Johnny Storm, the impulsive younger brother of Sue Storm, who has the ability to engulf himself in flames, fly, and project fire. He is one of four leads in the Fantastic Four alongside Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Notably, Russell and Quinn have collaborated before, appearing together in the film ‘Overlord.’

The scale of the movie is a key reason why the promos are significant. Marvel has announced 31 characters for the film, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo have indicated that even more characters are set to appear, potentially including the Hulk.

The ensemble features returning Avengers, the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, characters from Wakanda and Talokan, as well as X-Men actors like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Kelsey Grammer. All of these characters are converging around Downey’s Doctor Doom.

Character-focused promos like this one are an effective strategy to give each hero a moment in the spotlight. With so many heroes involved, pairing two fan-favorite characters from different franchises helps audiences visualize the crossover in a single image.

The Russos are back to direct after their work on ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to hit theaters on December 18.

If recent days are any indication, the promotional campaign is just getting started. Fans can expect more split-panel and character-pair art, ongoing speculation about the Witches, and plenty of discussions regarding which unannounced heroes might make an appearance.

For now, the pairing of a flag-wearing antihero and a fire-powered member of the Fantastic Four serves as a reminder of the diverse genres this film aims to blend.
