Entertainment enthusiasts now have more options than ever to determine what to watch. With critic scores, audience ratings, and streaming charts vying for attention, a new rating system is gaining traction on social media.

This website does not assess the quality of films but rather evaluates how “woke” they are. The concept has resonated with many, leading to screenshots of its ratings circulating widely on X.

The site, known as Is It Woke or Not, has quickly become a hot topic online. Its creator reports a surge in traffic as users share their results, turning the ratings into fodder for jokes, debates, and outrage.

The process is straightforward: users enter the name of a movie or TV show, and the site generates a percentage indicating its level of “wokeness.” The platform also allows searches for celebrities.

Each rating is based on a percentage derived from seven categories, including representation, casting, character changes from original material, and the degree of anti-woke backlash a title has received.

The site labels its scores as editorial, aiming to inform viewers about the ideological messaging present in a title before they decide to watch. Its homepage features sections for “Top Recommended Picks” and “Worst Woke Picks,” which can be filtered by genre, rating, and score.

The extremes in ratings have fueled much of the conversation. According to The Tab, Netflix’s ‘Heartstopper’ received a 96 percent score, while ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ was rated at 28 percent. The Marvel film’s score has since fluctuated, indicating that ratings can change over time.

Emmy-nominated series have also become popular for comparison. ‘Widow’s Bay’ scored the lowest among the nominees at 14 percent, while ‘The Pitt’ topped the list at 78 percent, with ‘Abbott Elementary’ and ‘The Bear’ falling in the low 40s.

Reactions to the site have been sharply divided, largely due to its creator’s stance against “woke” content. The Tab notes that the homepage encourages users to avoid titles with high scores, setting it apart from a neutral database.

This approach means that titles scoring high are effectively flagged as ones to skip, while more mainstream options are promoted.

Online responses have varied. Some users find the site a useful guide, while others initially thought it was a joke. Many expressed frustration that their favorite shows were labeled as ones to avoid, and some humorously compared scores for their preferred actors and films.

Critics point out that the term “woke” lacks a fixed definition, making any scoring subjective. Different rating sites have given ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ scores ranging from 1 out of 5 to 48 out of 100, and one site rated it at 58. Is It Woke or Not reportedly utilizes artificial intelligence to assess factors like casting, political dialogue, identity themes, the creator’s previous work, and cultural criticism, meaning the outcomes depend heavily on how these elements are weighted.

The site is not unique; other platforms, including a separate site called WokeOrNot that categorizes titles into tiers, have emerged with similar systems.

Whether viewed as a helpful tool or a mere curiosity, Is It Woke or Not illustrates how quickly cultural debates can be distilled into a searchable, shareable figure. A single percentage is easily screenshot-able, contributing to its viral spread.

For now, the site appears poised to continue generating headlines and sparking discussions as new releases are evaluated.
