Is ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 5 Happening and What Are the Latest Updates?
No one anticipated Coach Lasso would return to the field. After concluding its original three-season run in 2023, Jason Sudeikis made it clear that the story was finished. However, as the fourth season approaches its finale on October 7, discussions about ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 5 are already heating up.
So, could we be in for more Richmond heartbreak and biscuits? While Apple TV has yet to officially renew the series for a fifth season, the growing number of hints, reports, and optimistic statements from executives are hard to overlook.
As of now, the answer is no, at least not officially. Prior to the fourth season, reports indicated that a renewal for a fifth season had not been issued. Nevertheless, those with the authority to make that decision seem eager for it to happen.

In a recent red carpet interview with ScreenRant, Apple’s Eddy Cue hinted that a fifth season seems promising. He expressed hope for another run and mentioned that the show has plenty of stories left to tell.
The business case for a renewal is also compelling. The premiere of the fourth season garnered nearly 300 million viewing minutes within its first two days, marking the biggest launch for Apple TV to date. Despite some initial hesitance from critics and audiences, the season has maintained a strong position in Apple TV’s charts since its return.
Behind the scenes, preparations appear to be underway. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creative team was expected to reconvene in late August to outline a fifth season that has yet to be ordered. The same report noted that Sudeikis has a three-season arc in mind once again.
This plan could reshape the entire franchise. It suggests Sudeikis aims to continue the narrative from the fourth season into a sixth, potentially giving the Lady Greyhounds their own trilogy. Reports indicate he is interested in pursuing both a fifth and sixth season following the fourth.
This aligns with how Sudeikis discusses the show’s creative process. He has explored spinoff ideas, including a Keeley Jones series, a Leslie Higgins cartoon, and a Dani Rojas telenovela, before deciding it was more akin to adding a room to the bar. Many of those unused concepts are now contributing to plans for future seasons.
If a renewal comes through, the timeline could progress swiftly. Sigmund Judge reported that production for a fifth season is tentatively set to begin in January, with a potential return to screens as early as next year. TechRadar noted that early development discussions and the January filming report have been corroborated by 9to5Mac and AppleInsider.
However, not every outlet is as optimistic about the timing. TV Insider suggested that a fifth season may not arrive until at least 2027 or 2028, depending on renewal and progress. Historical context shows that the first season premiered in August 2020, the second followed almost a year later, and the third debuted in March 2023.
There’s also an intriguing real-world connection. One report speculated that a summer release could coincide with a women’s football storyline alongside the actual Women’s World Cup. However, this remains speculative, with no confirmation from Apple or the cast.
The stability of the cast is another significant question. The fourth season features Sudeikis alongside Brendan Hunt, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and Brett Goldstein, with Jeremy Swift also returning.
Several familiar faces have stepped back. Phil Dunster, Nick Mohammed, James Lance, and Cristo Fernandez will not reprise their roles, and Anthony Head passed away two months before the season premiere. This makes the women’s team storyline feel like a natural focal point moving forward.
Apple appears to be planning for the long term. Sudeikis recently expressed a desire for two more seasons, and Cue signed the cast to a three-year contract in 2025. If the Lady Greyhounds continue to captivate audiences, a complete trilogy for Ted’s new chapter is starting to look less like a dream and more like a strategic plan. Would you like to see Ted and the Lady Greyhounds pursue that full three-season arc, or do you think Richmond should walk away while the underdog magic is still alive?
