Charlize Theron Embraces Masculine Style Era While Daughters Disapprove
Charlize Theron has always been a fashion trailblazer, effortlessly transitioning between glamorous red carpet looks and edgy tailoring. She prioritizes comfort and attitude over traditional fashion norms.
Recently, she opened up about a new direction in her wardrobe, which has sparked reactions from her family.
At the Veuve Clicquot Club Solaire VIP opening in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, on Thursday, October 1, Theron, 51, was spotted in a chunky white ribbed sweater, her short blonde hair styled to one side against a vibrant orange backdrop.
This relaxed outfit set the stage for her comments about her evolving style.
Theron shared that she is leaning into a more masculine, gender-neutral aesthetic. According to PEOPLE, she mentioned that she used to wear more heels but now identifies as “more of a flat girl.”
While she has always appreciated masculine, gender-neutral clothing, she still enjoys feminine pieces occasionally. Currently, she is embracing a more masculine vibe.
However, her daughters, Jackson, 14, and August, 12, are not exactly on board with this shift.
This isn’t the first time her girls have voiced their opinions about her fashion choices. Theron has humorously noted that they envision her as a princess and prefer her to dress accordingly.
When she cut her hair into a mullet for ‘The Old Guard 2’, one of her daughters reportedly cried, prompting Theron to explain that everyone should express themselves as they wish. One daughter often requests that she wear a dress for school events.
During the same event, Theron revealed another style-related tension at home. She has a collection of clothes stored in the basement that her daughters frequently discuss, but they currently don’t have access to it.
She recounted an instance when one daughter needed an outfit for an all-white event and began searching through the boxes, but Theron firmly declined, stating those items are not available for now.
Theron also shared insights into her family’s seasonal activities. Although she isn’t particularly fond of Halloween, her kids’ enthusiasm has made her embrace the holiday.
The family typically kicks off the spooky season with visits to Disneyland, where Theron has previously shared photos with Jackson and August enjoying the park’s Halloween festivities in Cars Land.
Fashion enthusiasts will likely not be surprised by this latest development. Theron has long described her style as edgy and masculine, often changing her aesthetic for various acting roles.
While promoting ‘The Old Guard 2’, she donned a sweatshirt-style Alexander McQueen minidress paired with chunky gladiator sandals. She also showcased a head-to-toe Bottega Veneta look and, at the Los Angeles premiere, wore a high-neck Givenchy bodysuit complemented by a sharp-lapel blazer and square-toe boots.
At Paris Fashion Week, she made a statement by combining tailored suiting with a top made entirely of jewels. In 2023, she told Vogue that her lifestyle and role as an Uber driver for her kids necessitated a simpler hair routine, aligning with her practical style preferences.
Theron has been open about her parenting experiences, and fans appreciate the relatability of her family dynamics. With daughters on the brink of their teenage years, a mother who favors flats and gender-neutral clothing can certainly be a source of embarrassment.
Nonetheless, her comments reflect a growing trend among celebrities who prioritize comfort and tailored looks over traditional heels and gowns. For Theron, the balance between masculine and feminine styles appears to be a natural evolution.
