‘Below Deck’ Star Gael Cameron Opens Up After Challenging Season and Ex’s Legal Issues
Reality TV often thrives on drama, but sometimes the real-life consequences are far more significant than what unfolds on screen. For ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ alum Gael Cameron, the past year has been marked by a challenging season both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Now, she is sharing her journey of moving forward.
This particular season showcased Cameron caring for her infant son, Kayden, in Croatia while his father, Nathan Gallagher, worked long hours on a nearby superyacht. Season 11, which premiered on June 8, 2026, was filmed during the summer of 2025, prior to the legal troubles that have since overshadowed the show.
On Friday, Cameron took to Instagram to reflect on her experiences during the season and the aftermath. She shared photos of herself and Kayden, expressing that leaving her support system at home was not part of her plan, but she feels grateful for the experience. She noted that her time in Croatia revealed her strength as a mother and a woman, emphasizing her determination to survive and continue finding joy.
After filming concluded, the couple separated following an alleged domestic violence incident in December 2025. Gallagher was arrested on December 27 in Sydney, facing charges related to an alleged assault that occurred the day prior. Police reported that he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentionally choking a person without consent, and common assault.
While the alleged victim was not named in the police report, court documents indicated that Gallagher was mentioned in an Apprehended Violence Application filed on behalf of Cameron. The two met while working as deckhands on season 9 and share a son, born in June 2025. Cameron hails from Sydney.
In August, Gallagher spoke to Rolling Stone about the case, acknowledging his mistakes and expressing his intent to take responsibility for his actions. He claimed that the public has not heard the complete story and that he possesses evidence supporting a different narrative. His primary focus, he stated, is on his son and finding a way to co-parent effectively.
Tensions escalated in September when Gallagher failed to appear at a court hearing in Australia, resulting in a judge convicting him on charges of assault and choking. Authorities believe he may be offshore, and an arrest warrant is currently active, while Cameron presented evidence in court.
Bravo has announced that it does not intend to collaborate with Gallagher in the future. However, the network has decided not to edit him out of the current season, as it was filmed prior to the charges being filed. This decision has sparked discussions among fans regarding how to handle storylines that take on a different context in light of recent events.

In an earlier Instagram post from early September, Cameron described a “tough season” and the months spent quietly healing and rebuilding for herself and her son. While she did not mention the warrant in that post, her latest message continues to convey a tone of resilience. Fans and fellow cast members have rallied around her with support.
Chief stew Aesha Scott publicly defended Cameron on September 23, urging people to extend grace to her castmate. Scott remarked that Cameron has endured significant hardship over the past two years, and that critics may not fully grasp what she has faced. This comment followed scrutiny of Cameron’s appearance in a recent episode, including her decision to join Gallagher in Croatia.
The situation has sparked broader discussions about how reality shows depict relationships and the audience’s reactions when real-world consequences arise. For anyone affected by domestic abuse, the National Domestic Violence Hotline in the US can be reached at 1-800-799-7233. For now, Cameron’s focus remains on healing and her son.
