Some on-screen friendships feel so authentic that fans often wonder if they extend off camera. In ‘Ted Lasso’, the relationship between Rebecca Welton and Keeley Jones has consistently been at the show’s core, and the real-life bond between Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple appears just as robust.

With the Apple TV+ comedy returning after a three-year hiatus, their friendship is once again a hot topic. Season 4 premiered on August 5, 2026, placing the duo in the spotlight for a new wave of press and fan admiration.

Recently, a photo of Waddingham and Temple joyfully embracing with an Emmy statuette in view has been circulating online. Temple, dressed in a pale blue two-piece, wraps Waddingham in an exuberant hug, her mouth wide open in delight, while Waddingham, in a coral strapless gown, beams proudly with the golden trophy in hand.

The image recalls one of the most memorable moments from the show’s awards history. In 2021, Waddingham won the Emmy for supporting actress in a comedy series at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, marking the first win of the night for her portrayal of Rebecca. She triumphed over Temple, who was also nominated in the same category for her role as Keeley.

During her acceptance speech, Waddingham took a moment to honor her co-star, humorously expressing her wish to share a piece of the statuette with Temple, stating there would be no Rebecca without Keeley. It was a rare Emmy moment where the winner celebrated her closest competitor.

Temple has reciprocated the affection. In an interview, she expressed her hope that Waddingham would win the award, a sentiment that Waddingham reportedly echoed.

Their bond has remained strong between seasons. Temple appeared in Waddingham’s 2023 Apple TV concert special ‘Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas’, and both have continued to speak fondly of each other in interviews. Temple has also received Emmy nominations for both ‘Ted Lasso’ and ‘Fargo’, adding to her growing list of accolades.

Their chemistry has been a significant draw for the show’s return. In a recent interview with TV Movie, the two discussed the importance of female friendships and the excitement of seeing Rebecca and Keeley reunited, with Temple expressing admiration for what she has learned from Waddingham.

The new season follows Ted as he returns to Richmond to coach a women’s second-division team, a concept inspired by Keeley’s pitch to Rebecca. Waddingham mentioned that she and Temple took on unofficial mentorship roles for the younger actors joining the cast as new players.

Both stars admitted they were uncertain about their return when the season was announced, with Waddingham sharing her doubts about her involvement. Once back, she described Rebecca as being in her most confident and clear-eyed state, while Temple noted that Keeley’s journey this season revolves around learning patience.

Season 4 is being released weekly, with episodes scheduled through early October. Fans are now nearing the conclusion of a long-awaited reunion, making the timing of this photo especially poignant.

Outside of ‘Ted Lasso’, both actresses are busy with new projects. Waddingham stars alongside Octavia Spencer in the upcoming series ‘Ride or Die’, while Temple has been featured in 2026 projects like ‘Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die’.

For now, fans are simply enjoying the warmth of the moment. The photo serves as a reminder that the genuine affection between Rebecca and Keeley transcends mere acting.
