Disney+ Shares Essential Marvel Homework Before Watching ‘VisionQuest’
Marvel enthusiasts are well aware of the routine: a new MCU series drops, and suddenly there’s a hefty list of homework. ‘VisionQuest’ is no different, and with the show premiering today on Disney+, the question of what to watch first has become a hot topic.
This series is touted as the concluding chapter of a trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ in 2021 and continued with ‘Agatha All Along’ in 2024. It centers on Paul Bettany’s White Vision, who embarked on a quest for his purpose after acquiring the original Vision’s memories.
To assist viewers in their preparation, Disney+ has compiled a catch-up list of 8 essential projects: ‘Iron Man’, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, ‘Avengers: Civil War’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, ‘WandaVision’, and ‘Agatha All Along’. This list spans from 2008’s ‘Iron Man’ to the latest entry in the trilogy.
The connections between these titles are more significant than they may initially seem. ‘Iron Man’ introduced J.A.R.V.I.S., the AI assistant who later evolved into Vision, and it also marks the first appearance of Faran Tahir’s Raza, who reprises his role in the new series.
‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ stands out as a crucial selection. It introduces Ultron, who initially sought to transfer his consciousness into the body that became Vision, alongside F.R.I.D.A.Y. This film also features James Spader’s villain, who returns to the MCU nearly a decade later for this series.
‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ is included primarily due to E.D.I.T.H., the AI portrayed by Emily Hampshire in ‘VisionQuest’. Meanwhile, ‘Avengers: Civil War’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ provide insights into Wanda and Vision’s love story, culminating in Vision’s tragic demise at the hands of Thanos. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ completes the Avengers arc on this list.
The two Disney+ series serve as the most direct setup. ‘WandaVision’ is where White Vision was created by S.W.O.R.D., infused with the original’s memories, and sent off into the unknown. ‘Agatha All Along’ clarifies how Tommy Maximoff’s soul transitioned into a new body, which is relevant as Ruaridh Mollica portrays him in the new show.
Opinions vary on how much homework is truly necessary. A separate catch-up list highlighted by Marvel emphasizes 4 titles: ‘Age of Ultron’, ‘Civil War’, ‘Infinity War’, and ‘WandaVision’. This list omits ‘Agatha All Along’, which many guides consider an optional watch.
Disney+’s more extensive list bridges that gap by including all three chapters of the trilogy’s narrative. For casual viewers, this may seem like a lot of content, but dedicated fans seeking the full emotional experience will likely appreciate the comprehensive approach.
The first trailer, unveiled at D23 in August, depicted Vision in hiding, living a quiet life, only to be pursued by personified versions of Tony Stark’s former AI systems. J.A.R.V.I.S., F.R.I.D.A.Y., and E.D.I.T.H. all appear in human form. Vision then teams up with Spader’s Ultron, who also returns in human form, to evade their pursuit.

The plot thickens when Vision encounters a young man claiming to be his son, Tommy Maximoff. The official synopsis reveals that Vision must confront his identity, resist Ultron’s influence, and unravel the mystery of his young companion to survive.
Terry Matalas, known for ‘Star Trek: Picard’, serves as the showrunner. He has drawn parallels between White Vision’s predicament and Spock’s in ‘Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home’. The series consists of 8 episodes, with each installment reflecting a different film genre.
The cast is impressive as well. Alongside Bettany, Spader, and Mollica, the series features T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, Todd Stashwick as the mercenary Paladin, James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S., Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., and Diane Morgan in an undisclosed role.
