‘Street Fighter’ Star Cody Rhodes Comments on Marvel Studios Meeting Without Revealing Much
The Cody Rhodes Marvel Studios meeting has become a thrilling topic of speculation for both wrestling and comic book fans. It all started with a single photo, a hint of intrigue, and a fanbase eager to fill in the gaps.
On August 26, Rhodes posted a photo on his Instagram story from the Marvel office in Burbank, California. He provided no caption or context, leaving fans to wonder whether the image was recent or from the past. This sparked a flurry of theories ranging from Cable to Sabertooth to Venom.
Now, Rhodes has finally addressed the buzz, albeit vaguely. In an interview with Brandon Davis, he mentioned that the subject has been “heavily discussed but I never discuss it,” describing the experience as just a photo taken at “a wonderful office after a wonderful meeting with wonderful people.”
He humorously noted that someone sitting next to him had been teasing things that aren’t real, and even if they were, he wouldn’t confirm anything. While he didn’t specify who the teaser was, he made it clear he has no intention of confirming or denying any rumors.
Rhodes is no stranger to Marvel lore. He shared that he grew up learning about the characters through trading cards and animated series. He praised the Marvel offices, highlighting the vast history and material available, suggesting that one could quickly get up to speed on a character if Marvel were to reach out.
That “hypothetical” language is significant, as he never confirmed an offer for a role. Nonetheless, his passion for comic books is evident, with Omega Red and Cyclops being among his favorite characters. Back in 2016, he even expressed interest in playing Black Bolt in the ‘Inhumans’ series.
Rhodes hasn’t been dismissing the rumors entirely. During a ‘Street Fighter’ press interview with Nerdist, he told co-star Andrew Schulz, “I’m an X-Men,” which led fans to speculate about his potential involvement in the franchise’s reboot. Schulz has also playfully teased the rumors throughout their promotional tour.
Meanwhile, the cast for the reboot is shaping up, featuring Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. Whether Rhodes will join this lineup remains uncertain, and it’s just as likely he’s enjoying the speculation and engaging with fans.
Interestingly, Rhodes recently shared that he attended a general meeting with Legendary Entertainment, expecting casual conversation, only to be offered the role of Guile in ‘Street Fighter’ right then and there. He initially thought they were joking.
However, it’s unclear if his Marvel visit unfolded similarly, and there’s no confirmation it did. It does illustrate how a seemingly casual meeting can lead to a significant role for the WWE star, who has also appeared in ‘The Naked Gun’ and ‘Arrow’.
Wrestlers have had a mixed history with Marvel. Becky Lynch reportedly filmed a post-credits scene for ‘Eternals’ that was ultimately cut, while Seth Rollins filmed scenes for ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ before his character was removed. These instances remind us that a meeting, or even a day on set, doesn’t guarantee a role on screen.
Timing is another crucial element. Any Marvel film Rhodes might be part of would likely not be released until 2027 or later, meaning fans may have to wait a while for clarity. Until Marvel Studios makes an official announcement, all theories remain just that—speculation.
For now, the American Nightmare seems content to keep everyone guessing. With ‘Street Fighter’ currently in theaters and his acting career gaining momentum, he has plenty to promote in the meantime.
