Marvel enthusiasts have long speculated about the fates of characters from ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ While some have made appearances in various parts of the franchise, others remain in uncertainty. A new Marvel series is reigniting this discussion.

The series, titled ‘Zodiac’, is a live-action spy thriller that Marvel Television unveiled at New York Comic Con on October 8. Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, Animation, Comics & Franchise, shared with the audience that it is indeed a spy thriller. Production is set to commence in London in spring 2027, with a premiere on Disney+ anticipated in 2028, and casting is expected to begin shortly after the panel.

One former star from ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ has already expressed her eagerness to join the cast. Adrianne Palicki, who portrayed Bobbi Morse, also known as Mockingbird, has indicated her desire to return for the series. In a conversation with Comics, Beer & Sci-Fi, she mentioned missing Bobbi and expressed her hope to don the character’s uniform once more.

Palicki’s enthusiasm has an interesting backstory. She discovered ‘Zodiac’ just a day prior, after a fan approached her with questions about it. This spontaneous reaction adds an authentic touch to her excitement, rather than it being a premeditated announcement.

It’s important to note what Palicki’s comments imply. While she has shown interest, she has not confirmed any involvement, nor does it indicate that Marvel has reached out to her. This is simply an actress sharing her willingness to return.

The logo for ‘Zodiac’ has sparked theories about its connection to S.H.I.E.L.D. Elements of the organization’s emblem appear integrated into the title design, and Winderbaum encouraged comic fans to look for hidden clues. The ‘O’ in the title also resembles an arc reactor, adding to the intrigue.

Marvel has yet to disclose any characters, cast members, or plot specifics. In the comics, Zodiac is a criminal organization with members named after the 12 astrological signs. ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ aired for seven seasons on ABC from 2013 to 2020, making it a natural fit for returning characters.

Palicki joined ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ in its second season in 2014 as Bobbi Morse, a skilled agent known to comic fans as Mockingbird. She was written off during the third season when Bobbi and her ex-husband Lance Hunter left S.H.I.E.L.D. to safeguard the agency’s secrets. At that time, fans anticipated her leading a spinoff titled ‘Marvel’s Most Wanted’, which ultimately did not materialize.

This history contributes to the resonance of her potential return. Palicki has previously stated that she was waiting for a call to suit up again, and in 2019, she revealed that producers had not contacted her regarding the final season. Even years later, fans continue to inquire about her character.

Palicki has established a significant presence in the genre. Before her role as Mockingbird, she portrayed Wonder Woman in NBC’s unaired pilot and Kara in ‘Smallville’. This year, during a fan panel at SpaceCon, she mentioned that her ultimate comic book dream role is Rogue, while also expressing her desire for more Mockingbird in the Marvel universe.

She has acknowledged fans for their support in her career and encouraged them to initiate a Mockingbird campaign. This direct engagement with her audience is part of why the news about ‘Zodiac’ spread so quickly. Fans have been yearning for this reunion for years.

‘Zodiac’ is the first new live-action Marvel series announced since ‘Ironheart’ in 2025, arriving as the franchise’s live-action offerings dwindle. ‘Wonder Man’ was canceled after one season, and the third and final season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is expected in 2027. ‘VisionQuest’ premiered on October 14.

The new direction seems to focus on shows that are less interconnected with the films. If ‘Zodiac’ embraces the S.H.I.E.L.D. connection, it could provide a landing spot for beloved ‘Agents’ characters. Clark Gregg, who portrayed Phil Coulson, reportedly shared the announcement, fueling further speculation.

Currently, there is no cast list available. Casting is expected to commence soon, so names may emerge in the upcoming months. Until then, Palicki’s remarks serve as a reminder of the enduring affection for ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ among fans.

Whether Marvel decides to reach out remains to be seen. However, with the show centered around espionage and a logo that hints at S.H.I.E.L.D., the possibility is certainly there.
