Alan Ritchson had a blast revisiting the past while filming Reacher season 3. The actor, who stars as the titular Jack Reacher, spoke to the media about a memorable scene where Reacher jumps into a cold body of water to avoid security guards and swim to a contact.

Ritchson compared it to his first big TV role as Aquaman in Smallville, saying, ‘Yeah, it was pretty similar because the water was cold, and when I was a child on Smallville, we were in a glacial lake. It was just above freezing, and it felt a little bit like that up in Toronto shooting again. So I was having flashbacks — it’s like my ‘Nam.’’

In Smallville, Ritchson played Aquaman in a few episodes, becoming one of the first actors to take on the iconic role before Jason Momoa did in the DCEU. Ritchson admitted that, when reading the Reacher novel, the water scene made him nervous.

He jokingly hoped they would skip it and have Reacher just crawl across the lawn. But no, they went all in and built a huge indoor pool with a wave-maker to recreate the scene.

Reacher season 3 has been getting positive reviews, with many viewers saying it’s better than Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher films. The show focuses on Reacher investigating a criminal named Zachary Beck while working solo, although he still coordinates with people like DEA agents and his old ally Frances Neagley.
