The James Bond series is in a strange place right now. After Daniel Craig’s final movie No Time to Die, fans are wondering what’s next. With the franchise now owned by Amazon, producers are trying to decide how to bring 007 back.

Actor Alexander Skarsgård has a fun idea: a Swedish James Bond, but without the action and danger. In an interview with The Times of London, Skarsgård said he once joined Sweden’s national service when he was 19. He said, “I did it because I was 19, I didn’t know what I wanted to do and I wanted to be James Bond for 18 months.”

When asked if he would like to take that idea to the screen, Skarsgård joked:

“I could be a very polite, diplomatic Swedish James Bond, who negotiates. There’ll be no violence at all. It’ll just be boardroom meetings where people try to find consensus, everyone’s stressed out and desperately tries to avoid an argument or complications, that’s very Swedish. I’ll pitch it!”

This version of Bond might wear a tuxedo and be charming, but instead of fights or chases, it would be full of quiet meetings and peaceful talks. It’s not the Bond most fans know, but it would definitely be different — and very Swedish.

Skarsgård first became famous with a small role in Zoolander, and later starred in Big Little Lies and Succession, where he played a tech billionaire. Next, he’ll appear in Murderbot, an upcoming AppleTV+ show based on the popular Murderbot Diaries sci-fi books by Martha Wells. He plays an android who protects humans on distant planets.

After playing many dark or serious roles, Skarsgård is ready to have more fun. “To lean into comedy – that’s a real blast,” he told The Times.
