The streaming wars are often measured by subscriber numbers and quarterly earnings, but every September, the industry reveals a different kind of scoreboard. The Emmys distribute awards across numerous categories over two ceremonies, and when the dust settles, the ultimate victor is determined by which platform amassed the most accolades.

This year’s results showcased a significant shift in power. For nearly two decades, the top position has been held predominantly by either HBO Max or Netflix, with only one notable exception in recent history.

Apple TV concluded the 2026 Emmys season with an impressive twenty-eight wins across both the Creative Arts ceremonies and Monday’s Primetime broadcast, officially securing the top position among all networks and streaming services for the first time since its launch in 2019. This achievement marks a milestone twenty-six years in the making, arriving with substantial momentum as Apple TV had previously set its all-time high with twenty-two wins just last year.

Notably, a significant portion of Apple’s total wins came from a single show. ‘Widow’s Bay’ alone secured fourteen wins, setting a record for the most Emmys ever won by a comedy series in a single season, surpassing the previous record of thirteen held by another Apple TV series, ‘The Studio,’ just a year prior.

The remainder of Apple’s wins were distributed among several other noteworthy titles. ‘Pluribus’ contributed six wins, while ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ and ‘Palm Royale’ each added three, and ‘Slow Horses’ rounded out the tally with one more, showcasing a truly dominant performance across the streamer’s offerings rather than relying solely on one breakout hit.

HBO Max followed in second place with twenty-one wins, largely driven by ‘DTF St. Louis’ and ‘The Pitt,’ which each garnered seven awards. Netflix secured the third position with sixteen wins, led by ‘Beef’ and ‘Love on the Spectrum,’ both of which contributed three wins each.

Prime Video also reached double digits, finishing with ten total wins, including five shared with MGM+ for the recently canceled ‘Spider-Noir.’ Further down the list, NBC earned eight wins, bolstered by Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime special, while Peacock’s seven wins were primarily due to ‘The Traitors,’ and CBS concluded ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’s’ run with a respectable six-win farewell.

Apple’s victory is particularly significant given how infrequently such a shakeup occurs. This marks only the second time in twenty years that a platform other than HBO Max or Netflix has claimed the top spot at the Emmys, following FX’s unexpected win in 2024.

For a streaming service that has spent years cultivating its reputation for prestige television without ever quite reaching the pinnacle, this year’s results signify a true turning point. With ‘Widow’s Bay’ already renewed and Apple’s broader slate demonstrating this level of strength across comedy, drama, and limited series categories, the platform’s Emmys breakthrough appears to be less of a fluke and more of the dawn of a new era at the top of the leaderboard.
