‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Features New Doctor Doom Card in ‘Magic: The Gathering’
Doctor Doom has been making waves this year, and the tabletop gaming scene is no exception. Since the arrival of Marvel’s crossover set in late June, the ruler of Latveria has taken center stage in ‘Magic: The Gathering’. His card, ‘Doctor Doom, King of Latveria’, leads the ‘Doom Prevails’ Commander deck, which has quickly become the most sought-after preconstructed deck in the set.
This surge in popularity coincides with the upcoming film he will star in. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to hit theaters on December 18, featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom and the directorial talents of Joe and Anthony Russo. Marvel’s promotional efforts have prominently featured Doom’s imagery, showcasing everything from his throne to his iconic mask.
A new piece of artwork has recently emerged, further igniting excitement. The artwork depicts Doom in his green cloak and armor, standing confidently with a clenched fist, flanked by three hooded figures in metallic masks. These figures represent the Latverian Witches, and the card is marked as a promo with art credited to Jorge Molina.

The card itself remains the same as the one fans are familiar with from the Commander deck. It features a 3/3 Legendary Creature — Human Noble Villain costing {1}{U}{B}{R}. Whenever players discard land cards, each opponent loses 2 life, and at the beginning of combat, a Villain under your control gains menace and connives.
This promo card appears to be the exclusive item that Regal Cinemas announced earlier this year. Regal Crown Club members can claim a ‘Doctor Doom, King of Latveria’ promo by attending ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ in Infinity Vision during its opening weekend. The design had not been revealed at the time of the announcement, making this artwork a first look.
The Latverian Witches have been one of the most intriguing aspects of Marvel’s promotional campaign. Costumes labeled ‘Latverian Witch’ were quietly displayed at Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con exhibit in July, sparking theories about a coven serving Doom.
On October 3, Marvel unveiled a new poster at Comic-Con Málaga, featuring Doom alongside three masked witches in various colored robes. However, the studio has not confirmed any specific colors linked to named characters, and the artwork does not depict them using magic.
Fans have been speculating about the identities of the witches. Some believe the red-robed figure could be Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, the purple one might be Charlize Theron’s Clea, and the green figure could represent Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie. However, none of these theories have been confirmed.
The card art mirrors the poster’s composition, placing Doom at the center with the trio of witches by his side against a moody green backdrop. Their presence on official merchandise indicates that Marvel intends for audiences to visualize these witches as integral to Doom’s court.

Details about the film’s plot remain closely guarded. Marvel has confirmed that Doom is the primary antagonist and that the Fantastic Four will be involved. The star-studded cast includes Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, and Vanessa Kirby, alongside Downey Jr., with the film debuting alongside ‘Dune: Part Three’.
For collectors, this timing is a boon. The Doom promo card linked to an opening-weekend screening provides fans with a tangible memento of the film. Demand for Doom’s cards has surged in the wider Marvel set, with one ‘Doctor Octopus’ card seeing a nearly 400% increase in value due to its association with Doom.
Whether you’re a Commander player or simply interested in the lore, this card illustrates how much of Marvel’s marketing strategy is now centered around Doom’s universe. The mystery of the Latverian Witches remains one of the most captivating elements.
