Chun-Li has been a prominent figure in video game history since ‘Street Fighter II’ was released in 1991, and fans have strong opinions about who should portray her on the big screen. Previous live-action adaptations featured Ming-Na Wen and Kristin Kreuk, setting a high standard for the upcoming ‘Street Fighter’ movie.

The responsibility now lies with Callina Liang, a Canadian actress who was relatively unknown to mainstream audiences when she was cast in June 2025. Prior to this role, her screen credits included Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Presence,’ which garnered her attention as a breakout star, and the 2024 remake of ‘Bad Genius.’

As the movie approaches its theatrical release, Liang is ensuring that the press tour is just as memorable as her character. She has shared new Instagram photos from the ‘Street Fighter’ press events, showcasing her on a balcony in a stunning red satin gown, with elegant stone buildings and a bright blue sky as the backdrop.

The gown features a gathered bodice and a high scarf-style neckline. A daring keyhole cutout with a dangling beaded detail adds a bold touch, while her overall styling remains sleek and polished, with her hair elegantly swept back.

Red has become a recurring theme throughout the tour. Just days earlier, on October 2, Liang was seen in a courtyard surrounded by wrought-iron balconies, wearing a glossy red satin halter top paired with a matching scarf tied at the neck, a playful nod to the film’s vibrant aesthetic.

The following day, she showcased a lace ensemble featuring a fitted corset-style halter bodice and an asymmetrical skirt with a floral lace hem. At the film’s London photocall, she opted for an emerald Di Petsa La Davina Knit Long Dress, complete with a deep neckline and a metallic chain centerpiece.

The promotional campaign began with the global World Warrior Tour, starting with a preview on the Shinjuku Yunika Vision screens in Tokyo. The cast has since traveled through London and Los Angeles, with each location producing fresh images.

In Los Angeles, Liang was photographed next to a full display of Chun-Li’s iconic blue costume. Earlier this year, shortly after the trailer was released, she wore a sleek black crop top with a grey blazer, matching trousers, and a black leather belt.

These appearances have kept her at the forefront of discussions. While not everyone was initially convinced by the casting announcement, Liang’s portrayal of Chun-Li has sparked particularly strong reactions.

Liang has also impressed fans with her dedication to the role. She reportedly downloaded every version of ‘Street Fighter’ available and meticulously studied slow-motion footage of Chun-Li’s in-game moves frame by frame.

Additionally, she has shared that she intentionally built up her thighs for the role, paying homage to the character’s famously powerful legs. Behind-the-scenes photos reveal her in Chun-Li’s classic blue costume, complete with the signature hair buns and spiked wrist cuffs, along with another Instagram post showing her executing kicks.

Set in 1993, the film follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters, portrayed by Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo, who are drawn back into battle when the enigmatic Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament. The cast also features Jason Momoa as Blanka, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Cody Rhodes as Guile.

Eric André, Vidyut Jammwal, and Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson complete the ensemble, with Kitao Sakurai directing from a script he co-wrote with T. J. Fixman. The film is produced by Legendary Pictures and Capcom for Paramount Pictures.

‘Street Fighter’ is set to hit theaters on October 16, including IMAX, 4DX, and ScreenX showings, leaving just 10 days until its release. If Liang’s press appearances are any indication, there will be more red carpet events to come.
