Released back in 2024, Madame Web was filled with an all-star female cast and it was supposed to be a major entry in the SSU. But, as you know, Madame Web flopped in every aspect and it is considered as one of the worst films of 2024.

Whether or not the movie received a fair and objective treatment is a matter for a standalone essay, but when it comes to the movie’s main star, Dakota Johnson, she is not bothered by the failure anymore.

In a recent interview, the actress discussed the movie once again and she made her opinion clear – it flopped, and so what? More details below!

Dakota Johnson led an all-star female cast, which also included Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor, as well as Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott.

The movie suffered from numerous issues, and it managed to earn just $100 million; at the same time, the budget was also $100 million, so you can imagine that Sony lost a lot of money on that movie. The critical consensus was that it was bad and it received three Golden Raspberry Awards: Worst Picture, Worst Actress (for Johnson), and Worst Screenplay, and it is considered among the worst movies ever made.

And while Johnson has commented on this movie more than once and is now unwilling to go back to that story, she once again provided us with some insights, revealing that the movie wasn’t initially envisioned like that.

“It wasn’t my fault,” she said with a laugh, before continuing. “There’s this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don’t have a creative bone in their body. And it’s really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way. And I think unfortunately with ‘Madame Web,’ it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time.”

But, if you’re wondering whether she’s bothered by the failure – she is not. “I don’t have a Band-Aid over it. There’s no part of me that’s like, ‘Oh, I’ll never do that again’ to anything. I’ve done even tiny movies that didn’t do well. Who cares?”
