Dan Gilroy Explains Force Healer’s Vital Role in Cassian Andor’s Future

In Andor Season 2, Episode 7 (“Messenger”), Cassian is injured with a wound on his back. He and his girlfriend Bix Caleen are on Yavin 4, where the Rebels are gathering. Bix takes Cassian to see a “Force healer” who works as a cook.
The healer, played by Josie Walker, isn’t a Jedi. She’s just a regular person who has some ability to use the Force, but it’s very rare and not something she fully controls.
Cassian is doubtful, but the healer not only heals his wound, but she also gets a vision of his future. She senses that Cassian has a destiny and is meant to be a “messenger.”
This moment is important because it shows how the Force still exists even when most people in the galaxy see it as a myth.
Recently, writer Dan Gilroy commented on the scene in a bit more detail and explained why the force healer was an important character in the long run:
“Cassian Andor is sensing his death … some part of it, at least … he’s watched too many people [die] … and so many strange occurrences have happened.”
Gilroy imagined that after meeting the faith healer, the idea of the Force becomes real to Cassian. He added:
“I always imagined that after meeting the faith healer, [the concept of the Force] lands with him … and I believe when he’s on the beach dying in Rogue One … he’s not imagining this is death. He’s imagining this is some sort of continuation.”
This scene connects Cassian’s journey in Andor to his fate in Rogue One, showing how the Force influences his path.
The meeting with the Force healer had another impact: it gave Bix a reason to leave. Since Bix isn’t in Rogue One, some fans thought she might die during Andor. Instead, the healer tells Bix that maybe she’s the place Cassian needs to be.
The next day, Bix decides to leave for another world. She leaves a message for Cassian, saying they’ll be together once his work for the Rebellion is done. Sadly, we know that won’t happen.
This moment also hints at why phrases like “may the Force be with you” start becoming common among the Rebels, as seen in the original Star Wars movie.
