DC Announces ‘Absolute Justice’, the First Team-Up Event of the Absolute Universe
DC’s Absolute Universe has been meticulously crafting a darker, more intense reflection of the company’s iconic heroes over the past few years. Each flagship title has concentrated on individual characters, establishing a universe where heroes are often seen as outsiders and villains frequently hold the upper hand. Fans have eagerly anticipated the moment when these characters would finally unite.
Earlier this year, DC confirmed at ComicsPRO that the first crossover event series for the line was in the works, although no title or creators were disclosed at that time. Speculation has been rife regarding a potential Absolute Justice League team-up or the emergence of a formidable new adversary.
‘Absolute Justice‘ was officially unveiled at New York Comic Con 2026 during DC’s Absolute DC panel. The series is penned by Jason Aaron and illustrated by Juan Ferreyra, spanning five issues with a release set for April 2027. A cover image showcased at the panel has already begun circulating among fans, hinting at the scale of this ensemble.
The cover features a glowing green, skull-like figure hovering ominously over a group of heroes, including Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, alongside other recognizable characters. At the center of the image, a man in a suit holds a bright light, with the ‘All In’ logo in the corner, linking the series to the broader DC publishing initiative.

This series aims to unite the heroes of the Absolute Universe for the first time. It seems to introduce the Absolute version of DC’s leading superteam, although specific plot details remain under wraps. The Absolute Martian Manhunter, J’onn J’onzz, is set to be the key figure in assembling this team.
According to panel coverage, the creators focused on developing each character’s world before rushing into a team-up. The series is also expected to delve into the struggles faced by heroes in a world stacked against them, emphasizing the fight for survival. This aligns with the overall tone of the line, which has consistently embraced struggle over comfort.
One reassuring detail for readers is that the series will reportedly not disrupt the ongoing Absolute titles. There will be no crossover tie-ins, allowing fans who follow individual series to continue without needing to chase issues across the line. This approach ensures that flagship books can progress independently.
This strategy contrasts sharply with many publishing events that often scatter storylines across multiple titles. Here, the creators seem to be keeping the team-up contained within its own miniseries, making it easier for new readers to follow.
Aaron, who writes ‘Absolute Superman’, teams up with Ferreyra, an artist familiar with that title, creating a well-known pairing for the line. The Absolute Universe debuted with ‘Absolute Batman’ by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta, ‘Absolute Wonder Woman’ by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman, and ‘Absolute Superman’ by Aaron, Rafa Sandoval, and Ferreyra. Subsequent titles included ‘Absolute Flash’, ‘Absolute Martian Manhunter’, and ‘Absolute Green Lantern’.
The impressive lineup of talent was showcased at the NYCC panel, featuring creators such as Snyder, Aaron, Al Ewing, Che Grayson, Nick Dragotta, Nick Robles, Hayden Sherman, Frank Tieri, Juan Ferreyra, and Rafa Sandoval. The panel was moderated by DC executive editor Chris Conroy and group editor Katie Kubert, taking place on Friday, Oct. 9.
The Absolute Universe emerged from DC’s ‘All In’ initiative, which divided the main continuity into the Absolute Universe and DC Prime. It has been characterized as a dark reflection of the main DC Universe, where the established order is turned upside down. Fandom coverage explains that this line was designed to be welcoming to new readers, featuring mostly standalone titles that can be enjoyed in any order.
The Absolute Martian Manhunter has quietly served as a cornerstone of this world, still adjusting to Earth while working alongside his host and partner, John Jones. This makes him a surprising yet fitting choice to unify a superteam.
The panel also hinted at significant developments for ‘Absolute Batman’. In issue #25, a rebuilt Batman confronts Grimm at his manor, and in issue #26, illustrated by Cliff Chiang, Barbara Gordon takes on the Bat mantle while searching for her father. The series will take a one-issue break before returning in January.
With ‘Absolute Justice’ now officially on the schedule, the line’s most significant team-up is set to unfold. Fans will need to wait until spring to see how Aaron and Ferreyra bring these heroes together.
