Disney Characters That Start With L: Iconic Names
The huge cast of Disney characters stretching from Mickey Mouse to Pinocchio, and Beauty and the Beast to Monsters, Inc. means there are so many to remember, so let’s look at some of the most iconic characters with a name starting with L.
1. Lady (Lady and the Tramp)
The protagonist of the film, after her owners Jim and Darling have a baby, she gets put with an aunt who has cats. Lady’s strong personality doesn’t quite gel with the cats, and she is thus muzzled.
A sassy and sweet, American Cocker Spaniel, Lady is quite the contrast to Tramp.
After escaping and meeting some stray dogs including Tramp, who takes off the muzzle, she forms a close relationship with the scruffy and homeless dog.
2. Lafayette (The Aristocats)
One part of the duo of hounds that chase Edgar Balthazar, Lafayette is a ownerless dog who lives in an abandoned building.
Lafayette is a Basset Hound and the younger of the two, and quite rotund.
3. Lalo (Ratatouille)
A tall and slim man who is the saucier chef at Gusteau’s, he loves putting around on his scooter.
He eventually quits the job after finding out about Remy through Linguini’s revelations.
4. Lampwick (Pinocchio)
A street urchin, he becomes friendly with Pinocchio as they’re both shipped off to Pleasure Island.
A mischievous rascal, he likes to break the law and is seen drinking and causing criminal damage. He doesn’t seem to mind doing these things, instead it seems quite fun for him.
He has bright red hair and protruding teeth, and is quite lanky, although he does end up being turned into a donkey like all boys sent to Pleasure Island.
5. Lanky Schmidt (Monsters, inc.)
A creature that is basically all long limbs and has a tiny square body, the top half of which is his ‘head’, Lanky used to work at Monsters, Inc. as a scarer.
Having fully bought into the lie that the children are dangerous and toxic, upon seeing Boo while eating at a restaurant, he instead claims that the child flew around and used laser vision to blast a car.
6. Laverne (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame)
One of the anthropomorphic gargoyles that lives at Notre-Dame, is a wise character who looks after Quasimodo, giving him timely advice.
She is a useful counterweight to the sometimes over the top hysteria and comedy of Victor and Hugo, and she insults them due to not thinking that highly of them.
She often gets pestered by pigeons who enjoy roosting on her.
7. Laurel Lightfoot (Onward)
Mother of Ian and Barley, after losing her husband to an illness she moved on with Colt Bronco.
She is fiercely protective of her sons and is their rock, helping them through tough times through comfort and advice. She’s not too happy about all the dangerous questing that is going on, but realizes it’s part of life.
8. Lawrence (The Princess and the Frog)
Prince Naveen’s royal valet until he got sick of the constant belittling and disrespect, he then joined forces with the evil Dr Facilier.
Easily manipulated, Lawrence is not particularly evil per se, but definitely allows greed and appeals to vanity to influence him to perform villainous acts.
This is shown when it becomes clear that Lawrence has become Dr Facilier’s minion, and will marry Charlotte in order to allow the murder of Big Daddy, ostensibly splitting that fortune between the two of them.
9. Lefou (Beauty and the Beast)
Gaston’s accident-prone sidekick, he is short and slightly overweight with a strange set of teeth.
A dim character but not completely useless, he is often the punching bag for Gaston but he does notice things when Gaston is often too busy admiring his own reflection. He can put clues together to work out the overall picture, but is often ignored.
10. Lefty (Meet the Robinsons)
A cyclops purple octopus and the Robinson’s butler, he often frightens guests when he opens the door and pokes his huge, bulbous head out.
However, he does have great fighting ability and uses his tentacles to fight Tiny the T-Rex.
11. Lewis Robinson (Meet the Robinsons)
Appearing as both a 12-year old and 42-year old, he is the protagonist who has been gifted with incredible intelligence.
However, he is an orphan who is sorely lacking in confidence and gets downtrodden immediately when one of his brilliant creations doesn’t work as well as he wants.
Luckily, he has a time machine that he can use to undo some mistakes, and his future self is a lot more self-assured.
12. Libba Gardner (Soul)
Joe’s mother, she is a tailor and very supportive of her son. Despite her late husband’s struggles to become a professional musician, she hopes her son will have more success.
However, she does hope he has a backup plan, revealing her pragmatic and forward-thinking nature.
13. Libby (The Good Dinosaur)
A green dinosaur with a very long neck and twin sister to Buck, her main task is watering the family farm by spraying out her mouth.
She is a hard worker and follows her father’s guidance to improve and grow, taking on bigger and bigger tasks as her father advised.
She is a caring sibling and looks out for her two brothers, but sometimes teases them like any good family does.
14. Lightning McQueen (Cars)
The main protagonist, he is a top racer who learns a lot from failure, especially from The King. He is a red car that is a hybrid of several real cars, including a Corvette C6, a Ford GT40 and a Lola.
He is supremely confident, but doesn’t understand that achieving greatness requires a supportive team. Something of a perfectionist, he is always striving to be the greatest.
Radiator Springs formed the scene for McQueen’s arrest after he destroyed their main road, but it ended up being a blessing in disguise and he ended up building his headquarters there.
15. Lilo Pelekai (Lilo and Stitch)
An orphaned Hawaiian girl, she lives with her sister Nani. Her outgoing and somewhat eccentric personality alienates her from almost all her friends. To call them friends is also not exactly accurate as they spend all their time mocking and belittling her.
Eventually she meets Stitch, an illegal genetic experiment. Adopting him and thinking he is a dog, the two have some friction due to the latters destructiveness.
However, Lilo’s ownership of Stitch prevents him being put in jail by intergalactic aliens, and the two form a close bond as Lilo finds that the two share a lot in common.
16. Lily (Turning Red)
A human and cousin of Mei-Mei, she is very talkative but skeptical of almost everything.
Appearing as a red panda, she has dark red and white markings. Her panda is contained within her golden earrings.
17. Ling (Mulan)
A close ally of Mulan and Shang, he falls in love with Princess Ting-Ting.
Although thinking himself hilarious, his jokes often fall flat. However, he is often the life of the party through a combination of being outgoing and generally being quite clumsy.
18. Mayor Lionheart (Zootopia)
A male lion with an impressive dress sense, he is one of the few characters who is more than happy to have everyone be anything they want to be, and not showing the bigotry against certain species or the predator/prey distinction.
However, his goal to keep Zootopia the utopia he wants it to be, pushes him to do some shady things, such as capturing the savage predator mammals who are attacking others and imprisoning them until a cure is found.
Although ending up in jail, as he wasn’t responsible for turning the animals savage, his reputation is restored and he ends up mayor again.
19. Lizzie (Cars)
The widow of Stanley and living in Radiator Springs, she is a 1923 Ford Model T 2-Door Sedan.
Although not very happy with Lightning McQueen due to his destruction of the road, she sees the good he does and eventually warms to him, especially when he choose the town to be the site of his new headquarters.
20. Lizzy (Meet the Robinsons)
One of the participants in the Science Fair, she’s generally dressed in all black with dark hair, and her humor matches her outfit.
She’s a friend of Franny Robinson and unleashes her fire ant farm when the Bowler Hat Guy goes on a rampage.
21. Lorenzo Paguro (Luca)
Luca’s father, he is a sea monster who sometimes is too focused on raising crabs to win the local competition to be a fully dedicated father.
He appears as a standard human when in that form, generally always with a blue hat and barefoot.
22. Lotso (Toy Story 3)
Full name Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear, he is a pink teddy bear that ends up being the villain, despite his seemingly kind persona.
He stops toys escaping from Sunnyside Daycare.
23. King Louie (The Jungle Book)
An orangutan who wishes to become a human, he rules over Ancient Ruins and lives the highlife.
Eventually kidnapping Mowgli, he wants to use the boy’s knowledge of the ‘red flower’ so that he can achieve his wish of changing from ape to man.
24. Chef Louis (The Little Mermaid)
A French-accented chef, he’s a big fan of les poissons and will do anything to put Sebastian in his crab pot.
A real fiend in the kitchen, he shows off his musical chops and dancing skills while trying to get as many pieces of meat into the dish.
25. Louis (The Princess and the Frog)
A trumpet-playing giant alligator, he too wishes to be a human and is notably not as vicious as the other alligators who try to eat Tiana and Naveen.
26. Luca Paguro (Luca)
Shown the human world by Alberto Scorfano, Luca wants to go to the surface and change from his sea monster form in order to attend school.
Appearing as a green monster with blue hair and a long flowing tail with blue fins, Luca changes into a thin teenager with brown hair when in his human form.
Initially having to hide his trips to the surface due to his mother being against it, she eventually relents.
27. Lucifer (Cinderella)
Tremaine family’s black cat, he spends most of his time trying to eat the mice around the Château.
Not a big fan of the bloodhound Bruno, Lucifer is spoiled and has a vicious mean streak. Unfortunately for everyone else, Lucifer is also very sharp and devious, often using cunning plans and tricks to get his way.
28. Lucius Best (The Incredibles)
Best known as Frozone, he is a fellow Super like Mr Incredible. He can control water and moisture to freeze and create ice.
While he tried out for the Olympic team, his choice of the winter Olympics was said to be slightly unfair for the other competitors given his powers.
29. Lucky (101 Dalmatians)
One of the original 15 puppies of Pongo and Perdita, he was born very weak, having to be rescued by Roger Radcliffe. He comes up with the great idea to cover all the dogs in soot to escape from Cruella.
30. Lucky Jack (Home on the Range)
A jackrabbit with an ironic name, he often finds himself in hot water due to his actions that seem innocuous, such as when he gets thorns in his foot after kicking at a poster of Alameda Slim.
31. Lucy (101 Dalmatians)
A white goose from Withermarsh who helps get the dalmation puppies rescued through her links to the Colonel.
32. Luigi (Cars)
The owner of Luigi’s Casa Della Tires, he joins Team Lightning McQueen to get the best tires.
He is totally obsessed with all things Italian, with a visit to Porto Corsa being a highlight of his life.
He is a yellow 1959 Fiat 500.
33. Luisa Rivera (Coco)
Better known as Mamá, she is Miguel’s mother and is very kind and caring.
34. Luisa Madrigal (Encanto)
Daughter of Julieta and Agustín, she has super strength which comes in use around the village. However, this outer tough exterior hides an inner insecurity.
35. Luke (The Rescuers)
Never far from his moonshine, he is a muskrat and part of the Swamp Folks. Not the most reliable member of the crew, most of the time he’s sleeping and waiting for instruction.
However, his drinking habit does come in handy several times, as the moonshine acts as a sort of energy boost for other characters when they need to recover from a defeat.
36. Lumiere (Beauty and the Beast)
Turned into a candelabra by the Enchantress’ curse, he was formerly the castle’s maître’d.
He was also a confidante and advisor to the prince, and is well respected around the castle. However, his relationship with Cogsworth is somewhat strained due to Lumiere’s somewhat rebellious personality.
37. Lucille Krunklehorn (Meet the Robinsons)
A true super human due to her achievements in science, swimming the English Channel and even getting an Olympic gold medal, she is a doctor at Inventco Labs.
38. Lumpjaw (Fun and Fancy Free)
A huge bear with a large underbite, he shows murderous intent towards Bongo. While Lulubelle gets in between the two of them, eventually Lumpjaw fights with Bongo again, eventually resulting in them both going over a waterfall.
Lumpjaw is never seen again by the other bears.
39. Commander Lyle Tiberius Rourke (Atlantis)
While initially seeming like a good man, it is revealed that instead he wants to capture the Heart of Atlantis, which is later shown to destroy Atlantis.
