The cinematic awards season is officially in full swing, bringing with it the usual glamour and prestige. However, before Hollywood pats itself on the back with golden statuettes, the Golden Raspberry Awards have arrived to humble the industry. The nominations for the 46th annual ceremony were unveiled this week, creating a buzz for all the wrong reasons.

This year, two very different films have risen to the top of the “worst of” list. They tied for the dubious honor of the most nominations, signaling a rough year for big studios and experimental projects alike. Leading the pack with six nominations each are Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White and the sci-fi adaptation War of the Worlds.

These two productions found themselves at the forefront of critical disdain throughout 2025. The Razzies have acknowledged them in major categories, including the dreaded Worst Picture slot. They are joined in the top race by Hurry Up Tomorrow, starring The Weeknd, and Star Trek: Section 31, both of which secured five nods.

The big-budget Netflix film The Electric State also made an appearance on the list. It picked up three nominations to round out a field of high-profile disappointments. For Disney, the inclusion of Snow White is particularly stinging given the high profile of its cast.

In an ironic twist noted by industry observers, lead actresses Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler graced the Oscar stage together just last year as presenters. Fast forward twelve months, and their collaborative project is being roasted as one of the year’s biggest failures. While Gadot and Zegler surprisingly escaped individual nominations in the acting categories, the film itself was not so lucky.

It picked up nods for Worst Director for Marc Webb, Worst Screenplay, and Worst Remake/Rip-off/Sequel. Perhaps most brutally, the “Seven Artificial Dwarfs” were nominated collectively for Worst Supporting Actor. They also received a nod for Worst Screen Combo, targeting the visual effects choices.

On the other side of the ring is War of the Worlds, a modern retelling of the H.G. Wells classic. Starring Ice Cube, the film was criticized heavily for its execution and format. The Razzies took particular aim at the lead actor, nominating Ice Cube for Worst Actor.

In a classic bit of Razzie snark, they also nominated “Ice Cube and his Zoom Camera” for Worst Screen Combo. This specific jab highlights the film’s “screenlife” visual style, which apparently did not sit well with voters. The movie is also competing for Worst Director for Rich Lee and Worst Screenplay.

The acting categories this year feature a mix of Razzie regulars and surprisingly prestigious talent. Jared Leto, a favorite target of the Razzies in recent years, finds himself nominated for Worst Actor for his role in Tron: Ares. He is joined in the category by Dave Bautista for In The Lost Lands and Scott Eastwood for Alarum.

Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye also secured a spot for his work in Hurry Up Tomorrow. The Worst Actress category includes big names like Ariana DeBose and Milla Jovovich. Natalie Portman and Rebel Wilson also found their names on the list for their respective 2025 flops.

Perhaps the most shocking inclusion is Michelle Yeoh. She won an Academy Award recently but is now nominated for Worst Actress for her role in Star Trek: Section 31. This serves as a reminder that even the most celebrated talents can stumble.

It is worth noting the context surrounding the lead nominee, Snow White. The film endured a tumultuous production history before its 2025 release. Originally slated for an earlier debut, it was pushed back amidst reshoots and online controversy.

The decision to reimagine the seven dwarfs as CGI creations rather than using actors with dwarfism drew early criticism. Leaked set photos and interviews given by Zegler regarding the modernization of the story also fueled the fire. Zegler has been a busy talent in Hollywood, notably bursting onto the scene in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story.

She recently carried the Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, to box office success. However, this particular Disney entry seems to have been a stumbling block in an otherwise ascending career. She is currently slated to appear in several upcoming stage and screen projects, hoping to shake off this reception.

Similarly, Jared Leto’s presence on the list continues a fascinating trend in his career. An Oscar winner for Dallas Buyers Club, Leto has frequently swung for the fences with transformative performances. His recent turns in House of Gucci and Morbius earned him Razzie attention, suggesting a love-hate relationship with critics.

Tron: Ares was the highly anticipated third installment in the cult sci-fi franchise started in the 1980s. The series is known for its groundbreaking visuals and electronic score. Unfortunately, Leto’s performance clearly did not resonate with the Razzie voters this time around.

Michelle Yeoh’s nomination is perhaps the most surprising given her current standing in Hollywood. Known for her legendary work in Hong Kong action cinema, she reached a new peak with Everything Everywhere All At Once. She returned to the Star Trek universe for the Section 31 movie, a project long in development.

The film originated as a spinoff idea from the Star Trek: Discovery series. It focused on the franchise’s secretive intelligence agency, a darker corner of the Roddenberry universe. Despite Yeoh’s generally beloved status, the film’s reception suggests that even the best actors cannot always save a weak script.

The Golden Raspberry Awards traditionally announce their “winners” the day before the Academy Awards. They serve as a palate cleanser to the extreme self-seriousness of the Oscars. The 46th Razzies ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Winners will receive a spray-painted gold trophy estimated to be worth just under five dollars. While few actors accept the award in person, those who do often earn a measure of respect. Past winners like Halle Berry and Sandra Bullock famously showed up to accept their trophies in good spirits.

Which movie do you think truly deserves the title of Worst Picture this year; tell us in the comments.
