Does ‘Mortal Kombat II’ Have an End-Credits Scene? What to Expect After the Movie
Fans planning to watch ‘Mortal Kombat II’ this weekend might be curious about whether they should stick around after the credits roll. Post-credit scenes have become a staple in major franchise films, particularly in action and comic book genres, leading audiences to wonder if this latest installment in the ‘Mortal Kombat’ series offers any additional footage hinting at future developments.
The straightforward answer is that ‘Mortal Kombat II’ does not feature a post-credits scene. Viewers can exit the theater once the film concludes without the fear of missing any extra moments or setups for the next chapter.
This information comes in light of the film’s theatrical release on May 8, 2026, as audiences have begun sharing their reactions and insights about the viewing experience. Unlike many franchise films that reserve surprises for after the credits, ‘Mortal Kombat II’ keeps all its content within the main narrative.
Continuing the saga from 2021’s ‘Mortal Kombat’, the film brings back several beloved characters. This time, the champions are joined by Johnny Cage as they confront Shao Kahn in a fierce battle that threatens Earthrealm.
The official description of the film states that the fighters are “pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.”
Directed by Simon McQuoid and penned by Jeremy Slater, ‘Mortal Kombat II’ features returning cast members Jessica McNamee, Lewis Tan, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Newcomers to the cast include Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, and Tati Gabrielle.
As of May 7, early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes indicate that the film holds a 69% critics rating. The feedback has been mixed to positive, with many praising the action sequences and game references, while some have pointed out weaknesses in the storyline.
Development for the sequel kicked off shortly after the 2021 film’s release. Producer Todd Garner, writer Greg Russo, and McQuoid reportedly discussed plans for expanding the franchise with future sequels and potential spin-offs focusing on characters like Johnny Cage and Sub-Zero. New Line Cinema officially greenlit the sequel in 2022.
Filming commenced in Australia in June 2023 but was temporarily halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Production resumed in November 2023 and wrapped up in early 2024.
The movie had its premiere at TCL Chinese Theatre on April 27, 2026, before its wide theatrical release through Warner Bros. Pictures on May 8. Reports have also confirmed that a third ‘Mortal Kombat’ film is already in the works.
