Eiza González Stuns in Sheer Black Lace at the ‘I Love Boosters’ Premiere
Eiza González has consistently been one of the most elegant figures on the red carpet. The Mexican actress began her career at just 16 in the children’s telenovela ‘Lola, érase una vez’, and has since made a name for herself in Hollywood with roles in ‘Baby Driver’, ‘I Care a Lot’, and ‘3 Body Problem’.
In her latest film, ‘I Love Boosters’, she takes on a role that contrasts sharply with her glamorous persona. Playing Violeta, a cashier who also excels in dialectical materialism, González has undergone a significant transformation for the character, which critics have described as an unexpected genius.
The premiere on Friday, October 9, at the 70th BFI London Film Festival showcased this contrast beautifully. González dazzled in a black gown featuring a lace-trimmed bodice, delicate straps, and a sheer tulle skirt, complemented by drop earrings and sleek, long hair. She posed against the festival’s vibrant striped backdrop, a stark departure from Violeta’s usual attire.

Riley is familiar with the festival, having debuted his first feature ‘Sorry to Bother You’ there in 2018. ‘I Love Boosters’ is his second feature, described as an absurdist, anti-capitalist crime comedy that premiered at SXSW on March 12.
The film centers around The Velvet Gang, a group of shoplifting boosters led by aspiring fashion designer Corvette, portrayed by Keke Palmer. They target the boutiques of fashion entrepreneur Christie Smith, played by Demi Moore. The plot thickens when Smith steals one of Corvette’s designs, pushing the gang into high-stakes territory.
Ackie plays Sade, while Taylour Paige portrays Mariah, completing the main trio. The supporting cast features LaKeith Stanfield, Poppy Liu, Will Poulter, and Don Cheadle, with Stanfield embodying a mysterious character adorned with a pinky ring.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, González shared that the most transformative aspect of her role was collaborating with a group of women for the first time. She described the Atlanta production as a sisterhood forged through shared experiences as women of color in Hollywood, with a female director of photography at the helm.
This sense of camaraderie extended to the film’s promotional events. During a sold-out screening in Oakland on April 28, González playfully challenged Liu to do the splits on stage, a feat Liu happily accomplished, even repeating it on the red carpet.

Early reviews from the festival have been enthusiastic. One critic described the film as absurd, unhinged, and hilarious, noting that Palmer and Moore deliver standout performances while calling González’s Violeta both quirky and unforgettable. Another review praised González, Liu, and Poulter for their scene-stealing appearances.
However, not all critiques have been glowing. A critic from Seattle remarked that the film excels in style over substance, though the festival audience remained engaged. These mixed reviews align with a film that embraces its eccentricity.
Welcome to a new world of style. 💚🩷💛💙

The festival runs from October 7 through October 18, featuring 251 titles from 88 countries. It opened with Simon Stone’s ‘Elsinore’ and will conclude with Jesse Eisenberg’s ‘The Debut’. The lineup includes 109 works by female filmmakers, comprising 43% of the program, alongside 33 world premieres.
González has also been seen in ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’ and Hulu’s ‘La Máquina’, showcasing her impressive range. Her appearance in sheer black lace at a film where she barely resembles her true self highlights her versatility.
